Today’s story is the continuation of Muharram’s story. In yesterday’s story, Abbas Alamdar was martyred, and now the enemy was progressing towards the tents of Hussain. They thought one person went, so now they will try to get water from the river. The enemy thought of starting the actual war. One by one, people came from the camp to fight, and every time Hussain said, “We are not here to fight. You ask for forgiveness; we are ready to forgive you.” But Yazid was not ready to talk, and he ordered his commander and everyone else to fight.
The mothers of the family were very brave. The enemy called and said, “Who is remaining in the camp? Come and fight with us.” A six-month-old baby boy’s mother is saying, “Take my son also to fight. How can he not be martyred? He will also fight.” Hussain said, “No, he is a small baby.” Mother said, “No, it is not possible that everyone is martyred and he will be alive.” Hussain finally took that little boy to the battlefield in his arms and said, “He is ready to fight.” The enemy, in one shot, killed the baby.
In this way, the day ended except for Hussain and a boy who was unconscious but was alive named Ali Zayn al-Abidin; all the others were martyred. It was the end of the day, and the fight was about to stop for that day. Hussain again went out and said, “Anyone from the other end to you who wants to join us on the righteous path, come on our side. I am still ready to forgive. Let us together join the martyrdom.” Listening to Hussain’s word, commander-in-chief Hurr of Yazid’s army who previously stopped people from drinking water from the river, came in front and bowed down before Hussain, asking for forgiveness. He said, “I am ready to fight from your end.” Hussain forgave him and hugged him. The fight for that day ended.

He didn’t become angry and start fighting. He forgives and doesn’t fight.” Teacher said, “Stop here. Hussain Ji kept on forgiving till he was alive, so why do we curse Yazid today? Why can’t we also forgive Yazid? This is the question I always had. If Hussain forgave him, then who are we to be angry with him?” The lady said, “In today’s time, our thoughts are with Yazid because we still have hatred for him.” Teacher said, If you have hatred in you, you cannot love God. Is your love for Hussain bigger or your hatred for Yazid?” The lady said, “The small child was also sacrificed. He even didn’t know what was happening to him. But we keep grudges for small things in our hearts. We are also Yazid in this way.” Teacher said, Definitely, if we cannot forgive, we become Yazid. Forgive and forget. If we can forgive and forget, we are blessed ones.” The lady said, “The commander-in-chief finally understood his mistake.” Teacher said, “The commander-in-chief, who was ordering and killing everyone, himself bowed down, seeing Hussain Ji’s sacrifice. The bigger sacrifice was that of that mother, a wife whose husbands and sons were killed.”
A girl said, “I learned from today’s story that even if people are mean to you, you should always forgive them.” Teacher asked, “Do you really follow this?” She answered, “Sometimes.” Teacher said, “Try to forgive every time. Why should we forgive? It will make you happy. If you take revenge, you will cry later on, but if you forgive and forget, you will be the happiest person on the planet. This is the true lesson of the story: Forgive and Forget.”
A boy said, “From today’s story, I have learned why we feel bad about things. We feel bad because we are attached to those things. If the attachment is not there, then there will be no need for forgiveness.” Teacher said, “We have an attachment to ourselves. We are attached to our “I” and body; that’s why we feel bad.”
Someone said, “Hussain Ji’s aim was always to not fight. He was working for everyone’s betterment, which is why he never had second thoughts about his aim. Regarding the death of a family member, he always took it as Allah’s wish. He thought it was God’s work and God’s wish. Hussain was completely detached, and he never thought it was his work. He only wanted the best for everyone. This was also visible when he took the little boy to the battlefield. He had the same thought: that I am not the doer, and this is not my work. As he was not attached to any, he was able to perform what he wanted to do through his body. This is an example of extreme surrendering towards God.” Teacher said, “Beautiful.”
