Once, there lived a old donkey near a pasture. There was a well in its premises. It was not bounded by any pseudo wall, rather it’s circumference was camouflaged, and thus, was invisible for the new comers. Though the donkey was aware about the well, but one day he fell into it. It was a dry well. The donkey didn’t die. He began braying heavily. The harsh sounds made the villagers’ nights restless. They thought of dumping mud or rocks into the well, so that the beast dies. They started the job, next morning. As a giant lump of mud reached the well bed, the donkey thought that the villagers were helping it to move out of the well. It stepped on the lump, and was raised from the level of well bed. Dumping continued, and it continued stepping upwards. And, finally, it appeared on the surface.
Moral- Though it is a small fable. But, it indicates that we should live greater proximity with the one’s who portray negative notions for us. We actually get cleansed by such external pluckers.
It is said,
Bura jo dekhne mai chala, bura na mila koi|
Jo dil khoja aapnaa, mujhse bura na koi||
Nindak niyare raakhiye, aangan kuti chhawaiye|
Bina paani, sabun bina, nirmal kare subhay||
We should construct a best place for the one’s who indicate negative shadows and should ensure that we remain in their shelter for long. We will be cleansed inside out, without any external pomp and show.
Thus, donkey is worthy to be revered. It is the grand prodigy.
