Degrees bring Doom

(Kabir Das Ji is living in the banks of Ganga. A scholar Padmanaabh is growing as a highly literate being in another part of the nation. He is busy learning the scriptures heavily and is fluent in all books.

He begins a journey across the country to debate philosophy and religion. He starts winning the battles via words and starts collecting certificates of appreciation and merit. Now, he is a grand bag of ego.

Now, he leaves for Kashi. The news has spread in the city like wildfire. The pandits of Kashi are trembling out of fear. They decide to assemble in the Kashi Vishwanath Temple to plead before Lord. )

First Pandit: O Almighty! Kindly help us. Our Kashi is about to be doomed.

Second Pandit: O Lord! Padmanaabh shall ruin us.

Third One: All accreditations to Kashi shall vanish. The city is renowned for harboring the best brains on the planet.

(Kashi Vishwanath shows His opulent form.)

Lord: O people! Thou have come in my refuge. But, Alas! I cannot help. Thou ought to seek help from Kabir Das.

(The pandits gaze at the idol and murmur amongst themselves. They run to, Kabir Das Ji.)

All Pandits (in an accord): Hail Kabir Das Ji! Hail Kabir Das Ji

(Kabir Das Ji smiles, seeing the congregation, and remembers the old curses prevailing in the air a few minutes ago.)

Kabir Das Ji: O knowledgeable ones! How has the sun risen from the west? Hails to me! How can I help you?

All Pandits: O great seer! Only Thou can redeem us. We are doomed. Padmanaabh is arriving in the city of Kashi to humiliate us. We cannot supersede his invincible knowledge. He is coming with the entire baggage of certificates to prove his worth.

Kabir Das Ji: O great people! I am an unlettered being. I haven’t gathered a piece of chalk even to write a letter. I cannot debate.

All Pandits (in an accord, pleading to him): No, sir! The great Vishwanath has told us that only Thou can help.

Kabir Das Ji: If He has commanded, bring Padmanaabh before me. We shall debate. The Supreme shall argue with him through me.

(All Pandits rush to Padmanaabh and ask him to meet Kabir Das Ji, who could argue with him.)

Padmanaabh: Pandits! Bring the person before me we shall play. (He giggles.)

All Pandits: He does not wish to prove himself. You have to take the initiatives to meet him.

(The congregation leaves to meet Kabir Das Ji.

They see Kabir Das Ji sitting underneath a tree and doing his job of weaving.)

Padmanaabh (keeps his entire baggage of certificates and degrees and breathes heavily): O seer! Greetings to Thee. We shall proceed.

Kabir Das Ji (smiles): O humble being! I prostrate before Thee. I am an unlettered being, a tiny weaver. I haven’t read the scriptures. Kindly answer a single question, then we shall proceed for sure. O, sir! Did you understand what you read, or did you read and understand the context?

Padmanaabh (giggle turns into horror): O…O… I shall answer the question tomorrow.

(He rushes swiftly and begins gasping. Then, he sits underneath a Banyan Tree. He is petrified out of fear and is perspiring heavily. Suddenly, he hears some mumbling voices.

He sees a plethora of ghosts hanging upside down from the branches of the tree. They are talking amongst themselves.)

First Ghost: Listen! Do not sit on the branch fixed alternately to mine. Padmanaabh shall occupy it.

(A ghost descends from the tree and asks Padmanaabh.)

Ghost: Listen! Can I sit on that branch?

Padmanaabh (irritated): You can sit where ever you wish. Why are you asking me?

Ghost: No, it belongs to you. When you shall die, you will occupy the branch as a ghost.

Padmanaabh: O… Kindly elaborate on the notion.

Ghost: We were the sharpest brains on the planet and tried to humiliate others with our knowledge. Thus, we became ghosts.

Padmanaabh: Will I not be liberated via the knowledge I acquired?

Ghost: No, you will become a ghost.

(Padmanaabh trembles in fear. He drinks few sips of holy water, sprinkles few drops over his head, and runs towards the temple. He prays to Lord and then runs to Kabir Das Ji.

He prostrates before Him. Kabir Das Ji bows as well. Padmanaabh prostrates again, and so does Kabir Das Ji.)

Kabir Das Ji: Kindly utter the need. Did you find the answer?

Padmanaabh: O great soul! I haven’t understood anything. Kindly guide me.

Then, Kabir Das Ji touches him and, he feels the love. He became a staunch devotee of Kabir Das Ji. He realized the ways through which he should have used the knowledge for the upliftment of the cosmos.

The best way to help is to help ourselves to cross the raging ocean of thoughts.

Pothi Padh Padh Jag Mua Pandit Bhaya Na Koi !
Dhai Aakhar Prem Ke, Jo Padhe so Pandit Hoye !!
Scriptures cannot redeem us, only few letters uttered out of love for Thee can.

Kabira Khada Bazar Mein, Mange Sabki Khair!
Na Kahu Se Dosti, Na Kahu Se Bair!!

All are equal for Him, no bias prevails.
