Anxious for Her

Mathur Babu becomes restless for Mother. After his first vision, he feels anxious for Mother. He never wishes to leave Baba (Gadadhar)He remains engaged in his chores during the day but feels the void in the evening. He rushes to Baba and says, “I cannot leave you. If I ask you to come with me, you shall not. How can I live?” Baba says, “Say ‘Mother’ and you shall find me with you.” But, Mathur Babu remains anxious. He returns after doing all his jobs in the evening and insists Baba help him in the mental turbulence. Baba is more anxious. He cannot persistently perceive Mother. He experiences random short-spanned visions but lacks eternal experience. Both of them struggle.

Baba cries for days and nights incessantly asking Mother, “Mother, why can’t I see you in every breath? What do I lack?” Gradually, Mother unveils the reason behind the inconsistencies in the vision. Mother highlights the ego embedded in Gadadhar. She asks him, “Son, you should go the place of the maid, who cleans the mandir, and clean the toilet.” Baba cannot carry out the command in the daytime being a pandit in the mandir. He leaves in the darkest hour of every night and silently cleans the toilet with his long matted hair, using them as the brush. He continues the job until he gets rid of the ego of being a brahmin.

He still wears the sacred thread around his torso. He cannot remove it remaining amidst the public. He says to Mathur Babu, “I cannot carry out the duties as a pandit anymore. Kindly recruit anyone else.” Mathur Babu accepts the proposal wholeheartedly and allows Baba to accomplish his wish. Baba leaves the places and moves into a deep jungle, later called Panchvati. He sits under a tree and prays to Mother, “Mother, free me from this chain of ego.” He cries for days and nights, unstirred in all six seasons. One day, the sacred thread blows away with strong winds, and he gets rid of that thread of ego as well. Gadadhar feels lighter than before.

By this time, Hridaya spreads rumors, “Baba has turned mad. Mathur Babu has banished him from the mandir.” Rumors spread like a forest fire and reach Gadadhar’s village. His mother becomes aware of the rumors and feels distressed listening about her son. She sends a messenger to bring Gadadhar back home. The messenger meets Mathur Babu. Mathur Babu says, “Sir, I have received the message. I shall surely bring Baba to Kamarpukar, his village.” Mathur Babu decides to gift a precious shawl with golden embroidery to Baba, for he returns to the gross plane of consciousness.

Mathur Babu places the shawl across Baba’s shoulder. Baba keeps the shawl for a millisecond and then pulls it out, spits over it, tramples it heavily, thus destroying it. He says, “You are gathering Rajoguna. Get rid of this. I don’t need it.” Even, Mathur Babu rejoices and says, “Well done Baba. I am happy to see you happy. There is nothing precious other than you to me. I have received a message to take you to your village. But, before going to your village, I wish to take you to Kashi. You shall meet Vishvanath, and I shall get a business deal done.” Mathur Babu knows that he can get the deal if Baba goes with him. They prepare for the journey and, they leave on the decided date. They move on a carriage towards Kashi.

On their way, they cross a village, which is poverty-stricken. People lack oil even to nourish their matted hair, children run on the streets naked, and people lack basic resources. Baba asks the carriage driver to stop and says, “Mathur Babu, This is Kashi. You must give away all that you have with you right now to all the people of the village, otherwise, I shall not go with you.” Mathur Babu tries to negotiate with Baba, but at last, he gives away all his resources to the people in need.
