Navratri is celebrated as a grand season, in Indian subcontinent. She incarnated on land in nine forms. They need to understood deeply, for we may feel the presence keenly.

FormsInterpretation
1. ShailputriHer first form, Mother Shailputri, daughter of Himalaya, and Mother Maina. The one who is devoid of ‘I’ is Maina, the Lord. When we renounce our ‘I’, Shailputri is born within ourselves. Such massive renunciation is not possible by will. We need to surrender. Shail has a magnificent meaning. Shail means a mountain. Mountain is unstirred in all situations. Similarly, the Eternal Mother remains unstirred.
2.BrahmachariniThe second form is Mother Brahmacharini. This has a beautiful meaning.
Brahma- The Eternal Soul, Allah, God
-charini- similar to, homologous
If our character and thoughts are like that of Brahma, then we will be called Brahmachari. Its feminine form shall be Brahmacharini. Once we start nurturing such character, we will begin seeing equality and oneness in all creatures. A mother never discriminates amongst her children. All the passions shall perish (kaam, krodh, lobh, moh, jugupsa, and the rest). If we feel Her presence, nothing negative sustains. We must feel the Brahma within, the character must descend. We should begin by taking baby steps, surrendering to Her. She is not the Mother, who made us, for she keeps on quenching our futile desires. We are inviting a grand doom.
3.ChandraghantaMother Chandraghanta wears the magnificent moon over Her head. If our mind is fixed on the Eternal beauty, at each fraction of a second, across all faces and phases of life, we can be Chandraghanta. Her mind was fixed on the Oneness, while She was growing up as a young lady. Even, Shiva Shankar wears the moon over His head. It is important to concentrate on Element 24*7. We will be able to feel the manifested light, and the Oneness shall prevail. When the major beauty is unveiled, we need not gather any false garb in the mortal world. We need not flaunt over our belongings, once we realize the Oneness.
4. KushmandaThe suffix anda denotes the essence, the Energy. It is the Oneness which manifested in the form of all creatures and the entire set of creation.
5. SkandamataShe is the Mother. She is the Mother of all beings. According to the scriptures, it is belived that the Name Skandamata shows Her incarnation as the Mother of Kartikeya. If we surrender our tendencies of doing the chores (kartaapan), we can feel Her presence.
6. Kaatyayini
7. Kaalratri
8. Mahagauri
9. Siddhidatri
