Mother has numerous Names. An aspiring heart avails Her blessings. She is the Eternal Beauty, She is the Remembrance, She is the Truth, She is the Light….. She is our affectionate Mother, and….. She is Totality.
Kāla possesses numerous meanings. ‘Time and Death’ are the two common interpretations. Thy Name ‘Kāli‘ has its roots in the etymology, arising from ‘death’. It is a commonly perceived notion that She was a terrific Destroyer of evil (that’s it?). Such a colossal Incarnation took place, just for sweeping away the demonic life? Let’s see…
When we see the chronology of Mother’s form, we find that for demolishing the swarm of Raktabījas, She took such an enormous Embodiment. A drop of blood catalyzed the formation of another asura (demon). Slaying this demonic form, spilled blood on the battlefield and a plethora arose, in fraction of seconds.
These demons are not buried history and are not even the part of the inspirational stories of valour of “Mātā Kāli“. These demons symbolize the great aspects of our mind. Raktabīja asurās denote the ‘self-replicating desires’. If one is quenched, the other sets in to be quenched. Incessant cycles prevail. Births in multitude, pass by, and aspirations amplify, logarithmically. These wishes add on to our sufferings, in proportionality. We are forced to pay for these, with huge interest, either in this birth, or in the successive births.
Amidst the war, Mother devoured the blood, letting not even a dot-sized, fall on the ground. She swilled over each and every droplet. The demons perished into bliss.
This keeps an extraordinary significance. Though, Mother quaffed the evil blood; She, rather, imbibed them within, causing union with the One. Her love is matchless. In the layman understanding, it was killing of the evil, but, in the other view, it was the unparalleled care of a Mother for Her children.
Similarly, when we call Her with a longing heart, She consumes ‘us’ (viz, the ego) and unites ‘us’ with ‘Her’. Be it the fear of an insect, or, rather, death itself, She drifts us beyond all fears.
Along the course of endless cycles of birth, the experience of death, as a horrendous incident, has made deep indentations in our mind. Fear, of any sort, is its reflection.
Without Her realization, we are merely ‘living fossils’. If we give up our futile efforts at Her divine lotus feet, She carries us beyond Kāla and will unveil the hidden Kāli within.
After such an experience, all the desires burn out. Even, the aspirations of Thy vision extinguishes. Eternal Bliss sustains.
