Art of Dying

When Swami Vivekananda went to America, many people became His followers. One day, they were discussing spiritual instruction. Swami Ji asked them the grandest truth of Life. The disciples were puzzled, any kind of truth or a true notion is grand, comparison numbed their minds. Swami Vivekananda stated the term ‘Death’.

We become schizophrenic, thinking about death. Let us experience it, in this state, and become free of the Thanatophobia.

Thinking of death is Bliss. A mere thought of demise commences cycles of fear and we tremble and quiver inside out. Instead, if we accept it as a true notion, and ponder over the Death, then we will drop to some amazing conclusions. Concentrating on Truth will unveil immense beauty. We must renounce the physical body, either in this moment, or few days ahead. But, death is fixed. If we think of it now, we will be forced to renounce our passions, and atheism shall transform into faith. We will start thinking that as we have to leave the body at this moment, we will try to focus on our diminishing breathes, till the verge. The eyes shall be locked at the nasion, attachments to our assets, grudges for others, lust, greed, and the rest will gradually perish. These attributes will appear futile and remembrance shall descend unto us. The breathes will appear as a prominent rosary. Thus, remembering death is best, if practiced in the state of sahajaawastha (concurring predicament with the external circumstances, unstirred by anything). Repeating God’s Name is a tedious job, as it requires faith and love. But, this practice doesn’t have grand pre-requisites, even an atheist can attain Moksha (enlightenment). The constant reminiscence of the resplendent verity imparts the Magnificent Success.
This is not an easy practice, the visualization generates vivid fancies in our minds, and we image ourselves lying alive over the burning pyre or being dumped into the grave. There are several scientific theories of manifestations of fear.

Despite attachments to the body, we are forced to disclaim this aggregate of flesh and morsel. This will extort off all the attachments (Moh) sedimented within, and we shall feel that these stringed objects were never ours. Delusion attached us to the world, the scepter of the grand Spectre (Maya) illumined the objects of the gross, and we felt attracted towards it. The strings of attachment are loosened, the cast of “me and mine, me and mine, me and mine…” in the mind mitigates towards the Perpetual.

Let us suppose that a person, who irks us all the time and we are distressed by his acts, is standing before us, and the Lord of Death is waiting to take us, will we have grudges for the person? Will we cherish the thoughts of his evil deeds, even in our slumbering breathes? No, we will forgive him and shall focus on our breaths, and taste them for the last time in that particular ‘attire’ of epithelia. The wrath and animus grow into forgiveness. Attachments slackened, Wrath reduces, and the haze of delusion (Maya) starts rising. The gross perceptions through the senses (sight, smell, words, and the rest) are mortal, this realization sets within.

We don’t know if you will be able to take the next breath. This may be the last breath. The heart may stop beating the next moment, the pulse might diminish to zero. We are unaware of the probability of physiological happenings in our bodies. If we will become cent percent aware of the notion of death, we shall forget the past and the future, and live in the present earnestly. The practice of living in present shall make us bow down before the Supreme, and the mind will take a dip in the Ocean of Divinity. Remembering it with breaths, shall unveil the power of the Living Rosary and we will be able to see death before us, we shall forget all the false possessions of the planet, enjoying the death. Smile shall embellish our face, as the Truth shall adorn the mind. Someone has said “We cried at our birth, the world smiled, the death should be contralateral. The people should cry at our happy demise.” This is possible after deep practice, an apprehension of demise as the time of getting rid of old clothes, and gather a new one. And, if we will be a bad actor in this drama of the world, lie loose for the Divine Strings for moving our limbs for Its purpose, we will be freed from the cycles of commuting clothes. We shall live in Bliss forever.
At present, the mind has blanketed the light being emanated by the Inner Sun. The mind draws the superficial rays and directs them, towards the sensual channels. Then, this siphoning shall be aborted and Light shall prevail. All the inspirational sessions, write-ups and, blogs tell us about the art of Living. But, if we will know the way of happy dying, we shall live happily.

Let us see few personalities, who incurred the grave demise of their beloved, and realized the conclusion of life. While conversing with His disciples, Swami Vivekananda Ji gave the example of His Guru, Thakur Ji (Swami Ramakrishna Paramhansa Ji, the Name of the Guru should not be enunciated, under courtesy). Thakur Ji lost His father at His tender age, and the bereavement blossomed the most fragrant flowers of Knowledge in His life.
Even, the untimely decease of Narendra Ji‘s father left His family bankrupt. This demise lighted a flame of placidity and a quivering craving for Transcendental Tranquility. Chaitanya Mahaprabhu lost His father. When Gautam saw a congregation carrying a bier, a diseased man, whooping heavily, and a tranquil ascetic; these sights inspired Him, and vairaagya (placidity) flowered within, renounced the royal robes.

They saw the demise and were freed from the fear forever.

The disciples asked Swami Ji about the simplified way to Enlightenment, the stories about the Spiritual Giants were inspiring, but they were born as incarnations of the Solemn. In a deep voice, Swami Ji answered that their perceptions were true, and convinced them to be “potentially” enlightened incarnations, as well. He said that the Divinity could manifest within them, that very moment, by the practice of recollecting the instant of Death.

The sight of a slackened hand, tagged feet will act as deep reminders, without a sound. If practiced earnestly, we shall be sucked into the Majestic Nothingness.

We should be aware of the Grand Arrival, Death is not beholden to any formal invitation. If we become perfect in the course of remembrance, then the mental floss shall be cleaned, and we will become “Mrityunjaya” (Analogue Name of Lord Shiv, fearless about death). The pardon, love and, peace shall be granted. All the complaints of deficiency of Love for the Supreme shall vanish.

Preparation for the event beforehand is the best choice.

The gross rosary must perish, we have no time for playing with beads. The physiological rhythms must be considered as a rosary. Then, success is ensured
Let us start rehearsing for the Verge. The futile confessions of sins shall not slip off our lips. Love and the Name enunciated will adorn the lives of our kins.
