Mother Parvati asks Nandi Ji, to guard Her palace, tells him that She is going for a bath. Soon, Shiva Ji approaches the palace gates. He is interrupted by Nandi Ji, saying that He could not enter the palace, according to Mother’s orders. Shiva Ji pursues Nandi Ji boldly, and enters the palace. Mother is saddened by the disobedience of Nandi Ji. She plays a magnificent leela. She smears Her hands with turmeric paste, sculpts a form of boy, and bestows life to the form. (1) She asks the newly-formed Ganesh Ji to guard the palace gates, and avoid any kind of intruders. He receives the words, and portrays himself at the gates. Soon, Shiva Ji appears and tries to enter in. Ganesh Ji stops him, and conveys the words of Mother. Shiva Ji asks about the boy’s identity, and finds him to be Gauri putra Ganesh. He tries to pursue the boy, by all means, hook as well as crook, but in vain. Shiva Ji appoints Nandi Ji to move the boy away, but the efforts appear useless. Even, Brahma Ji tries to help, but in vain. The course of persuasions stimulate the grand rage, and the third eye opens up. (2) Shiva Ji uses his trident, and beheads Ganesh Ji. The cry of Ganesh Ji brings Mother to the palace gates. She weeps and whines seeing the death of Her son. Shiva Ji realizes the mistake. She enunciates about the boy, being the son of Shiva and Gauri. Mahalakshmi Ji asks Shiva Ji to do something, to avoid the apocalypse, out of Mother’s rage. (3) All the other Gods, Brahma Ji, Narayan and the rest assemble nearby. (4) All convey their notions about the act by Shiva Ji. Shiva Ji asks Nandi Ji to move towards the North (uttar, in Sanskrit) and bring the head of a baby beast, whose mother may be sleeping with her face pointing in the opposite direction to that of her son. (5)
Nandi Ji finds a baby monkey, who is wrapped in his mother’s arms. Then, he sees a baby deer, sleeping in amidst his mother’s limbs. Then, he finds a baby elephant, facing in the opposite direction to that of his mother. (6) Nandi Ji presents the decapitated head, before Shiva Ji. He places the head over the body of Ganesh Ji, and the blessings of Mother and Shiva Ji bestows life to the boy. (7)
(1) Nothing is impossible for the Eternal. The penta-elements are mere toy blocks for the God. This anecdote of sculpting indicates the entire course of formation of universe and its gradual evolution, which is accessible to the common man.
(2) The boy gave up his life, for the sake of his Mother’s words. Obedience to Allah, to Mother is supreme.
(3) Mahalakshmi Ji is the same Eternity. Her words to Shiva Ji indicate that the family members assemble when something happens. Their opinions should be welcomed. She is correlated to the materialistic bounties or rather, money, in the gross world. One cannot survive with money, for long. Only Eternity is immortal. In the course of rituals, Mahalakshmi Ji is immersed in the waters either on the day of Anant Chaturdashi or few days ahead. She is the form, which appeared to convey a message, and soon, merged with the Eternity again.
(4) Even, other elders assemble in the family.
(5) The direction, Uttar, is really important. We always visualize God, residing in the heavens, which lie upwards. Similarly, Uttar also means answer. We can find true answers only in North direction.
(6) The beasts enlisted, indicate the random states of mind. We need to be stable and still like an elephant. And, the opposite directions of the baby and mother show that we should live in world, and keep our mind fixed on God. If vice versa happens, we will be doomed.
(7) If we are beheaded from our ‘I’, the new head will bring divinity unto us. Let us guillotine ourselves for God.
