- After Kevat dropped them on the opposite banks, Rama, Mother Sita, and Lakshmana began their true exile. They thought of paying respects to Rishi Valmiki.
- As they reached the ashrama, Rishi Valmiki came running to them and stopped abruptly. He could not express his feelings for Rama. Rama prostrated before the Guru. Rishi Valmiki embraced her daughter (to be a foster father later), Mother Sita, and blessed Lakshmana abundantly.
- Rishi Valmiki took them into the ashrama and served them. After all the services, Rama asked him of the place where they could spend fourteen years of exile. Rishi Valmiki smiled and said that Rama was omnipresent and, he could not ask him to occupy a particular place. Rama said that he was not the omnipresent one but merely a son of King Dashratha. Rishi Valmiki guided them to go to Chitrakoot.
- When they reached Chitrakoot, they went to the ashrama of Rishi Atri and Mother Anusuya. Guru Dattatreya, Rishi Durvasa, and Chandrama were their sons. As Rama, Mother Sita, and Lakshmana reached the ashrama Rishi Atri welcomed them readily. He asked the lads to remain in the veranda and asked Mother to go in.
- Mother went in. She saw a magnificent figure, illuminated with enlightenments sitting in the room. As Mother Anusuya saw Mother, she embraced Mother Sita and loved her in her lap. Mother Anusuya combed her hair and gave her a special gift. She blessed her with a protective shield. Mother Anusuya said that Mother Sita would need it.
We are aware that when Ravana abducted Mother Sita, she offered her true form to the Fire God and the protective shield went with Ravana. - Mother Anusuya blessed her abundantly and thanked Mother within her heart for allowing her to serve Mother Jagdamba as her daughter. Mother Sita bowed before Mother Anusuya.
- Mother Anusuya taught Mother Sita to prepare naivedya from the fruits and tubers, she would get in the forests. They prepared the prasad and offered it to Adideva Shiva Ji, and then Rishi Atri, Rama, and Lakshmana accepted the offerings.
