Seeing the Truth

We see the tip of the iceberg while listening to the stories, and enjoy it. We feel that Ma Saradha devi was the incarnation of Mother Jagadamba. But, we do not pay heed to the sufferings she underwent when she was in human form. Today, we will see her suffering. She lived in grave conditions, but never complained and thanked God. Har Velle Shukrana.

She belongs to the lowliest family in Jairam Bati. She works with her parents in the paddy fields from three to four years of her age. She is learning to take care of everything. She looks after her younger brothers and sisters. She is married to Ramakrishna. With her in-laws’, she serves her mother-in-law and her husband, without a speck of attachment and desire. She is the first to wake up and the last to go to bed. She serves all the disciples earnestly. She never complains or expresses the pain. She also experiences all pains of a human body, like fever and fatigue, but never complains. 

After Ramakrishna leaves, she has no in-law’s house. They lived in Dakshineshwar Mandir, but Mathur Babu’s son kicked them out. They lived in Calcutta in a rental house. But, as the resources become scarce, Mother goes to Jairam Bati. Her brother, sister-in-law, and their children pester her for money. They know that she has many disciples in Calcutta, out of which some are very rich. Mother remains silent and prays to God, “Please give them some good sense. People feel desireless coming to me, but see how you have engaged them in money. They can get God in my presence.” Whenever any disciple comes, they harass her for money. Even in her house, she serves her brother, sister-in-law, and their children. Her dharma and karma is to serve. 

Brahmananda Ji, Ramakrishnananda Ji, Shashi Maharaj, and others feel bad seeing Mother. They think, “How our mother is suffering? We should do something. We will request her to come with us to Calcutta.” The trio, that is, the president, the vice-president, and the secretary of Ramakrishna Vivekananda Mission go to Jairam Bati. They are unable to say anything before Mother. They point toward each other to begin the conversation. Mother knows that they are there. With all his courage, one of them says, “Mother! We cannot see you suffering in such a way. The resources are enough. Come with us to Calcutta and stay with us.” Mother says, “Do you take care of me or I take care of you?” The three stand speechless. But, they stay in Jairam Bati for several days, saying, “Until you come with us, we will not go. Either we will stay here, serve you and help in your chores or take you to Calcutta.” One of Mother’s brothers comes, and says, “Go but keep sending the money.” She thinks, “The work here is done. There is more need in Calcutta.” She says to the trio, “Go and I will come after some time.” They get the promise and hence leave Jairam Bati. 

One day, Shashi Maharaj comes to Mother and says, “You have to come with us to Calcutta.” Mother is standing at the entrance of the small house, and gazing at a distance. Shashi Maharaj sees that Mother is in the state of samadhi and, one fraction of the moment, he sees Ramakrishna in Mother, and sometimes Maa Jagadamba in her. He sees that she is different. As Shashi Maharaj feels that he should touch Mother’s feet, Mother smiles and turns towards him, saying, “What happened, Shashi?” Shashi Maharaj touches Mother’s feet and says, “Now, I shall take you to Calcutta.” Mother says, “I will come.” 

In Calcutta, there is a two-storied rental house, where there is an office of Ramakrishna-Vivekananda Mission on the ground floor, and in a small room, on the first floor, Mother lives. After she arrives in Calcutta, miracles begin and, they get enough resources for the construction of Belur Math. Things change rapidly. Ramakrishna cherry-picked the disciples and initiated the ones at a higher state of consciousness. But, Mother initiates the lowliest and takes them to the highest state. She says, “I’m the mother of the wicked and even the saint; irrespective of the deeds. I’m the mother of everyone.”

One day, Mother is with a few people on a railway station. They have to catch a train to go to another city. A coolie comes running from one end of the platform and prostrates before Mother, saying, “Mother Sita! Where were you? I have been waiting for you for ages.” Mother lifts him and initiates him. After this incident, Mother and the coolie never meet each other.

This is the love of Mother, the power of attraction. The purity of the coolie made him receive the initiation, despite emerging from nowhere. God arranged Mother’s journey in such a way to liberate the coolie.

In the last years of her life, she suffers from malaria. There is a lack of medication for malaria. Her liver is infected, and she even suffers from Yellow fever. She is very ill physically. She says, “Now the time is here. No one will cry. The physical body will go, but I’m not going anywhere.” She leaves the physical abode in the state of samadhi. The disciples cremate her in Belur Math. 

• A child said, “I learned from the story that we should surrender to God.” The teacher said, “People have learned the word ‘surrender’ and ‘sharanaagati’ and often do not mean it. To surrender means to live in the divine will, be obedient, and be grateful in every situation. Krishna asked Maa Kunti, “Aunty! Ask for something.” Maa said, “Give me sorrow.” Krishna said, “People want happiness. You want sorrow.” Mother said, “Yes! When I’m happy, I feel away from you. But, I feel you closer to me in sorrowful times.” Even Kabir Das Ji has said, “Dukh Mein Sumiran Sab Karein Sukh Mein Kare Na Koi, Jo Sukh Mein Sumiran Kare Dukh Kahe Ko Hoye.” I listen that people say that they will work harder to surrender. I say to Guruji that I couldn’t surrender at the divine feet yet, but people have the strength to surrender. I should wash the feet of such people and drink the water!”
• A child said, “I just want ten rupees from Mummy so that I can buy a packet of biscuits. I just want it today. From next time, I won’t ask.” The teacher said, “You have seen the biscuits with your friends in the school. Now, you want it, but later, you may need an airplane if you see it in your school.” The boy said, “There is no place in my school for an airplane to land.” The teacher said, “Suppose you go to your friend’s birthday party and see a watch in his hands. You will wish for it.” The boy said, “I don’t know the addresses of my friends’ houses.” The teacher said, “Suppose papa bought a good thing for your brother and not for you.” The child said, “Papa will bring it the next time for me.” The teacher said, “What if he forgets his promise?” He replied, “It may be not meant for me.” The teacher said, “If you have such a deeper understanding, then why are you stuck on a packet of biscuits? You wanted a car, but I denied it, as it will take you away from God. These petty desires grow bigger as you grow, and take you away from God. Once you realize God, then nothing remains worthy to be gained.”
• “Mother Sharda Mani lost her husband, Ramakrishna Paramhamsa before she left the physical abode. But, she blessed people by saying “Saubhagyavati Bhav,” and people received the blessings of Saubhagya. She didn’t even keep the Saubhagya with herself.”
• Someone said, “We should not have desires.” The teacher said, “We are human, and we have desires. It is very difficult to become desireless. So, before you go to bed, forgive everyone and ask for forgiveness from Allah. Make your balance zero. You don’t know if you will be alive the next morning. When you wake up, say to God, ‘I’m giving my mind to you. If it comes to me, You will be responsible for the consequences.’ Then, forget everything. Have faith that he takes care of you. Well! To whom should we obey? When we are a child and tell a lie, we hear the voice of the soul, who says that we have done something wrong. We confess before our mother while we say the lie. We cannot hide anything at a young age. But, as we grow, we become accustomed to the wrong we do. We suppress the soul’s voice becoming the lawyer of the self, justifying it as ‘I can do it as all do more wrong than I do.’ Others’ deeds do not justify that you do wrong.’ When you ignored the first signal of the soul, while you did wrong in your life, was the biggest mistake. But, there is a choice left for those who have ignored the first inner call. Before going to bed and after waking up, make your balance zero. When you will die, you will be liberated. Forgive everyone and ask for forgiveness from Allah for all deeds. Sleep in his lap. When you wake up the next morning, say to God, ‘You have shown the next morning. Now, you work through this existence.’
• Someone shared her experience, listening to the above-mentioned discussion, “Before going to bed and after waking up, we say to God that our strings of life are at his divine feet. My mother inculcated this habit in me. But, after growing up, I’m realizing the cause of bliss. I feel blissful the whole day, and there is no stress.” The teacher said, “Yes! Practice more, and you feel it more.”
• The coolie recognized Mother, and he received everything. He need not meet her the second time.
• The teacher asked, “Why did Mother’s brother didn’t feel the presence of God, in Mother’s presence?” Someone answered, “Their karmas were not good. It was not the right time.” The teacher explained, “Where there is Krishna, there is Maya as well. God’s script runs in such a way. See the life of Prophet Mohammed (p.b.u.h.), Bibi Fatima, and others. They suffered and realized God. Before leaving the physical abode, Ramakrishna told Mother Kali, ‘Give her something to stay in the physical form. She could live seeing me. But, now she will soon leave.’ In Mother Sharda Mani’s house, her brother’s wife was insane. Even her daughter turned out to be insane. The girl held Mother Sharda’s sari and moved into the house. Mother served the girl and stayed in the gross plane.”

कहानियों को सुनते समय हम हिमशैल के सिरे को देखते हैं और उसका आनंद लेते हैं। हमें लगता है कि वह मां शारदा माँ जगदम्बा की अवतार थीं। लेकिन, हम उन कष्टों पर ध्यान नहीं देते हैं, जब वह मानव रूप में थीं। आज हम उसकी पीड़ा देखेंगे। वह गंभीर परिस्थितियों में रहती थीं, लेकिन उन्होंने कभी शिकायत नहीं की और भगवान को धन्यवाद दिया। हर वेल्ले शुक्राना।

वह जयराम बाटी के सबसे गरीब परिवार से ताल्लुक रखती हैं। वह तीन से चार साल की उम्र से अपने माता-पिता के साथ धान के खेतों में काम करती हैं। वह हर चीज का ख्याल रखना सीख रही हैं। वह अपने छोटे भाइयों और बहनों की देखभाल करती हैं । उनका विवाह रामकृष्ण से हुआ है। अपने ससुराल में वह बिना किसी आसक्ति और इच्छा के अपनी सास और अपने पति की सेवा करती हैं। वह सबसे पहले जागती हैं और सबसे आखिरी में आराम करती हैं। वह सभी शिष्यों की प्रेम से सेवा करती हैं। वह कभी शिकायत नहीं करती या दर्द व्यक्त नहीं करतीं। वह मानव शरीर के सभी दर्दों का भी अनुभव करती हैं, जैसे बुखार और थकान, लेकिन कभी शिकायत नहीं करती।

रामकृष्ण के जाने के बाद उनका कोई ससुराली घर नहीं है। वे दक्षिणेश्वर मंदिर में रहते थे, लेकिन माथुर बाबू के बेटे ने उन्हें बाहर निकाल दिया था। वे कलकत्ता में किराये के मकान में रहते थे। लेकिन, जैसे-जैसे संसाधन कम होते जाते हैं, माँ जयराम बाटी जाती हैं। उनका भाई, भाभी और उनके बच्चे पैसे के लिए उन्हें तंग करते हैं। वे जानते हैं कि कलकत्ता में उनके कई शिष्य हैं, जिनमें से कुछ बहुत धनी हैं। माँ चुप रहती हैं और भगवान से प्रार्थना करती हैं, “कृपया उन्हें कुछ अच्छा ज्ञान दें। लोग मेरे पास आने में इच्छाहीन महसूस करते हैं, लेकिन देखें कि आपने उन्हें पैसे में कैसे लगाया है। वे मेरी उपस्थिति में भगवान को पा सकते हैं।” जब भी कोई शिष्य आता है तो पैसे के लिए उन्हें प्रताड़ित करते हैं। अपने घर में भी वह अपने भाई, भाभी और उनके बच्चों की सेवा करती हैं। उनका धर्म और कर्म सेवा करना है।

ब्रह्मानंद जी, रामकृष्णानंद जी, शशि महाराज और अन्य लोगों को माँ को देखकर बुरा लगता है। वे सोचते हैं, “हमारी माँ कैसे पीड़ित हैं? हमें कुछ करना चाहिए। हम उनसे अपने साथ कलकत्ता आने का अनुरोध करेंगे।” तीनों अर्थात् रामकृष्ण विवेकानंद मिशन के अध्यक्ष, उपाध्यक्ष और सचिव जयराम बाटी जाते हैं। वे मां के सामने कुछ नहीं कह पाते हैं। वे बातचीत शुरू करने के लिए एक दूसरे की ओर इशारा करते हैं। माँ जानती है कि वे वहाँ हैं। उनके पूरे साहस के साथ, उनमें से एक कहता है, “माँ! हम आपको इस तरह से पीड़ित नहीं देख सकते हैं। संसाधन पर्याप्त हैं। हमारे साथ कलकत्ता चलिए और हमारे साथ रहें।” माँ कहती हैं, “तुम मेरा ख्याल रखते हो या मैं तुम्हारा ख्याल रखती हूँ?” तीनों कुछ नहीं कह पाते हैं। लेकिन, वे कई दिनों तक जयराम बाटी में रहते हैं, कहते हैं, “जब तक आप हमारे साथ नहीं आएंगी, हम नहीं जाएंगे। या तो हम यहां रहेंगे, आपकी सेवा करेंगे और आपके काम में मदद करेंगे या आपको कलकत्ता ले जाएंगे।” माँ के भाइयों में से एक आता है, और कहता है, “जाओ लेकिन पैसे भेजते रहना।” माँ सोचती हैं, “यहाँ काम हो गया है। कलकत्ता में और जरूरत है।” वह तीनों से कहती हैं, “जाओ और मैं कुछ देर बाद आऊंगी।” उन्हें वादा मिलता है और इसलिए वे जयराम बाटी को छोड़ देते हैं।

एक दिन शशि महाराज माँ के पास आते हैं और कहते हैं, “आपको हमारे साथ कलकत्ता आना ही है।” माँ छोटे से घर के प्रवेश द्वार पर खड़ी हैं और दूर देख रही हैं। शशि महाराज देखते हैं कि माँ समाधि की अवस्था में हैं और क्षण भर में ही वे माँ में रामकृष्ण को और कभी माँ में जगदम्बा को देखते हैं। वह देखते हैं कि वह अलग हैं। जैसे ही शशि महाराज को लगता है कि उन्हें माँ के पैर छू लेने चाहिए, माँ मुस्कुराती हैं और उनकी ओर मुड़कर कहती हैं, “क्या हुआ, शशि?” शशि महाराज ने माँ के चरण छुए और कहा, “अब, मैं आपको कलकत्ता गोद में उठाकर ले जाऊंगा।” माँ कहती हैं, “मैं आऊँगी।”

कलकत्ता में दो मंजिला किराये का मकान है, जहाँ भूतल पर रामकृष्ण-विवेकानंद मिशन का कार्यालय है, और एक छोटे से कमरे में, पहली मंजिल पर माँ रहती हैं। कलकत्ता पहुंचने के बाद, चमत्कार शुरू होते हैं और बेलूर मठ के निर्माण के लिए उन्हें पर्याप्त संसाधन मिलते हैं। चीजें तेजी से बदलती हैं। रामकृष्ण ने शिष्यों को चुना और चेतना की उच्च अवस्था के शिष्यों को दीक्षा दी। लेकिन, माँ सबसे नीच वाले को दीक्षा देती हैं और उन्हें उच्चतम अवस्था में ले जाती हैं। वह कहती हैं, “मैं दुष्टों की माँ हूँ और यहाँ तक कि संत की भी, कर्मों की परवाह किए बिना। मैं सभी की माँ हूँ।”

एक दिन माँ रेलवे स्टेशन पर कुछ लोगों के साथ होती हैं। दूसरे शहर जाने के लिए उन्हें ट्रेन पकड़नी है। एक कुली प्लेटफार्म के एक छोर से दौड़ता हुआ आता है और माँ के सामने यह कहते हुए दण्डवत करता है, “माँ सीता! आप कहाँ थी? मैं युगों से आपका इंतज़ार कर रहा था।” माँ उसे उठाती हैं और दीक्षा देती हैं। इस घटना के बाद मां और कुली कभी एक दूसरे से नहीं मिलते।

यह है माँ का प्यार, आकर्षण की शक्ति। कुली की पवित्रता ने उसे दीक्षा माँ से दीक्षा दिलाई। भगवान ने कुली को मुक्त करने के लिए माँ की यात्रा को कुछ इस तरह व्यवस्थित किया।

अपने जीवन के अंतिम वर्षों में, वह मलेरिया से पीड़ित हैं। मलेरिया की दवा का अभाव है। उसका लीवर संक्रमित है, और वह पीत ज्वर से भी पीड़ित हैं। वह शारीरिक रूप से बहुत बीमार हैं। वह कहती हैं, “अब समय आ गया है। कोई रोएगा नहीं। भौतिक शरीर जाएगा, लेकिन मैं कहीं नहीं जा रही हूं।” वह समाधि की स्थिति में भौतिक वास छोड़ देती हैं। शिष्यों ने बेलूर मठ में अंतिम संस्कार किया।

• एक बच्ची ने कहा, “मैंने कहानी से सीखा है कि हमें भगवान पर शरणागत करना चाहिए।” टीचर ने कहा, “लोगों ने ‘समर्पण’ और ‘शरणागति’ शब्द सीख लिया है और अक्सर इसका मतलब नहीं समझते हैं। शब्द बोलना आसान है पर अर्थ क्या है? शरणागति का अर्थ है ईश्वरीय इच्छा में रहना, आज्ञाकारी होना और हर स्थिति में आभारी होना। कृष्ण ने मां कुंती से पूछा, ” बुआ! कुछ मांगो।” माँ ने कहा, “मुझे दुःख दो।” कृष्ण ने कहा, “लोग सुख चाहते हैं। आप दुख चाहती हो।” माँ ने कहा, “हाँ! जब मैं खुश होती हूं, तो मैं तुमसे दूर महसूस करती हूं। लेकिन, मैं आपको दुख के समय में अपने करीब महसूस करती हूं।” कबीर दास जी ने भी कहा है, “दुख में सुमिरन सब करें सुख में करे न कोय, जो सुख में सुमिरन करे दुख काहे को होये।” मैंने सुना है कि लोग कहते हैं कि वे शरणागति के लिए और मेहनत करेंगे। मैं गुरुजी से कहती हूँ कि मैं अभी तक दिव्य चरणों में शरणागत नहीं कर सकी, लेकिन लोगों में शरणागत होने की ताकत है। मुझे ऐसे लोगों के पैर धोकर पी लेना चाहिए!”
• एक बच्चे ने कहा, “मुझे मम्मी से सिर्फ दस रुपये चाहिए ताकि मैं बिस्कुट का एक पैकेट खरीद सकूं। मुझे आज ही चाहिए। अगली बार से मैं नहीं पूछूंगा।” टीचर ने कहा, “आपने स्कूल में अपने दोस्तों के पास बिस्कुट देखा है। अब, आप इसे चाहते हैं, लेकिन बाद में, आपको अगर हवाई ज़हाज़ दिखेगा तो आपको तो वो भी चाहिए होगा।” लड़के ने कहा, “मेरे स्कूल में हवाई जहाज के उतरने के लिए कोई जगह नहीं है।” टीचर ने कहा, “मान लीजिए तुम अपने दोस्त के जन्मदिन की पार्टी में जाते हो और उसके हाथों में एक घड़ी देखते हो। तुम उसकी कामना करोगे।” लड़के ने कहा, “मैं अपने दोस्तों के घरों के पते नहीं जानता।” टीचर ने कहा, “मान लो कि पापा ने आपके भाई के लिए एक अच्छी चीज खरीदी है और आपके लिए नहीं।” बच्चे ने कहा, “पापा अगली बार मेरे लिए लाएंगे।” टीचर ने कहा, “क्या होगा यदि वह अपना वादा भूल जाएं?” उसने उत्तर दिया, “वह चीज़ मेरे लिए नहीं होगी फिर।” टीचर ने कहा, “यदि तुम्हे इतनी गहरी समझ है, तो तुम बिस्कुट के पैकेट पर क्यों फंस गए हो? आपको एक कार चाहिए थी, लेकिन मैंने मना कर दिया, क्योंकि यह आपको भगवान से दूर ले जाएगी। ये छोटी छोटी इक्षाएं उम्र बढ़ते बढ़ते और बड़ी हो जाती हैं और आपको भगवन से दूर ले जाती हैं। एक बार जब तुम भगवान को जान लेते हो, तो कुछ भी पाना बाकि नहीं रह जाता।”
• “माँ शारदा मणि ने भौतिक निवास छोड़ने से पहले अपने पति, रामकृष्ण परमहंस को खो दिया था। लेकिन, वे “सौभाग्यवती भव” कहकर लोगों को आशीर्वाद दिया करती थी और लोगों को सौभाग्य का आशीर्वाद मिलता था। उन्होंने सौभाग्य को अपने पास भी नहीं रखा।”
• किसी ने कहा, “हमें इच्छाएं नहीं रखनी चाहिए।” टीचर ने कहा, “हम इंसान हैं, और हमारी इच्छाएं हैं। इच्छाहीन होना बहुत मुश्किल है। इसलिए, सोने से पहले, सभी को क्षमा करें और अल्लाह से क्षमा मांगें। अपना बैलेंस शून्य करें। आप नहीं जानते कि क्या आप अगली सुबह जीवित होंगे। जब आप उठेंगे, तो भगवान से कहो, ‘मैं अपना मन आपको दे रहा हूं। अगर यह मेरे पास वापस आता है, तो आप परिणामों के लिए जिम्मेदार होंगे।’ फिर, सब कुछ भूल जाओ। विश्वास रखो कि वह आपका ख्याल रखता है। अच्छा! हमें किसकी बात माननी चाहिए? जब हम बच्चे होते हैं और झूठ बोलते हैं, तो हम आत्मा की आवाज सुनते हैं, जो कहती है कि हमने कुछ गलत किया है। हम झूठ बोलते समय अपनी मां के सामने कबूल करते हैं। हम कम उम्र में कुछ भी नहीं छिपा सकते हैं। लेकिन, जैसे-जैसे हम बढ़ते हैं, हम जो गलत करते हैं, उसके आदी हो जाते हैं। हम आत्मा की आवाज को स्वयं को वकील बनाकर दबाते हैं, इसे उचित ठहराते हुए ‘मैं इसे कर सकता हूं क्योंकि सभी और अधिक गलत करते हैं जितनी मैं करता हूँ।’ दूसरों के कर्म यह नहीं सिद्ध करते कि आप गलत करें।’ जब आपने आत्मा के पहले संकेत को नजरअंदाज किया, जब आपने अपने जीवन में गलत किया, तो यह सबसे बड़ी गलती थी। लेकिन, उन लोगों के लिए एक विकल्प बचा है जिन्होंने पहली आंतरिक कॉल को नजरअंदाज कर दिया है। सोने से पहले और जागने के बाद, आपका बैलेंस शून्य कर लो। जब आप मरेंगे, तो आप मुक्त हो जाएंगे। सभी को क्षमा करें और सभी कर्मों के लिए अल्लाह से क्षमा मांगें। उनकी गोद में सोएं। अगली सुबह जब आप उठें, तो भगवान से कहें, ‘आपने अगली सुबह दिखायी है। अब, आप इस अस्तित्व के माध्यम से कार्य करते हैं।’
• उपरोक्त चर्चा को सुनकर किसी ने अपना अनुभव साझा किया, “सोने से पहले और जागने के बाद, हम भगवान से कहते हैं कि हमारे जीवन की डोरी उनके दिव्य चरणों में हैं। मेरी माँ ने मुझमें यह आदत डाली। लेकिन, बड़े होने के बाद, मुझे आनंद का कारण समझ में आया। मैं पूरे दिन आनंदित महसूस करती हूं, और कोई तनाव नहीं है।” शिक्षक ने कहा, “हाँ! अधिक अभ्यास करें, और आप इसे और अधिक महसूस करते हैं।”
• कुली ने माँ को पहचान लिया, और उसे सब कुछ मिल गया। उसे दूसरी बार माँ से मिलने की जरूरत नहीं रही।
• टीचर ने पूछा, “माँ के भाई को माँ की उपस्थिति में भगवान की उपस्थिति का अनुभव क्यों नहीं हुआ?” किसी ने उत्तर दिया, “उनके कर्म अच्छे नहीं थे। यह सही समय नहीं था।” टीचर ने समझाया, “जहाँ कृष्ण हैं, वहाँ माया भी है। भगवान की लिपि इस तरह से चलती है। पैगंबर मोहम्मद, बीबी फातिमा, और अन्य लोगों के जीवन को देखें। उन्होंने सहा और भगवान् को पाया। भौतिक रूप छोड़ने से पहले, रामकृष्ण ने माँ काली से कहा, ‘उन्हें भौतिक रूप में रहने के लिए कुछ दे दो। वह मुझे देखकर जीवित रह सकती थीं। लेकिन, अब वह जल्द ही चली जाएगी।’ माँ शारदा मणि के घर में उनके भाई की पत्नी पगली थी। उसकी बेटी भी पगली निकली। लड़की ने माँ शारदा की साड़ी पकड़ कर उनके पीछे पीछे घर में घुमती थी। माँ ने लड़की की सेवा की और स्थूल अवस्था में रही।”
