Once there lived a poor boy who lost his father when he was young. His mother earned a meager amount and fed his belly. One day, he asked her, “Can I meet the king of the country?” The mother said, “Yes, of course. Why not?” The son asked, “But, how?” The mother said, “If you have this desire in your heart, then may God fulfill it.”
There came a realized saint in his village. The boy went to him and asked, “Can I talk to the king?” The saint said, “Yes! Of course. The king is constructing a big palace. Go and work there. Do whatever you can do at your age; pick the bricks or rocks but don’t ask for any payment. If they pay you, don’t accept it. Just do this, and you will meet the king.”
The boy went to the construction site. He enrolled himself in a list of volunteers to work on the construction site. He worked very honestly and sincerely and didn’t take the money in the evening. He worked very hard for three months continuously.
One day, the king came to inspect the work. He observed the work, hiding in a place. If he came as a king, the workers would work in a better way to show the king; out of excitement. He observed the boy working very hard and honestly. In the evening, the king called the supervisor and said, “Who is this boy? He works really hard. Pay him more today.” The supervisor said, “The boy does not receive the payment.” The king called the boy and said, “Come here. You work so hard, then why don’t you take the money?” The boy replied, “This is your job. You are our king, and we are your subjects. Your task is our task. Why should I receive payment for my work?” The king felt very happy. The king didn’t have a son, so he made the boy his son and gave him his kingdom.
The same thing is with us. We don’t do God’s job but do our jobs. If we do his job, he will call us and talk to us. You can get God and you can talk to him, but you just need to work. You should not need any payment. Love God but don’t accept love from him; “I love you, but I don’t wish for your love in return.” You play business with God, bribing him to do the jobs for you, and you promise him to give him fifty-hundred-or-thousand rupees, or you perform superficial worships. You cannot get God in this way. Obedience to the words of the Guru is important. The boy had the determination to meet the king. If we want him, we need to be determined without other escape options (Sankalp rahit Vikalp). The boy didn’t go to the king, but he came to the boy.
एक बार एक गरीब लड़का रहता था जिसने बचपन में ही अपने पिता को खो दिया था। उसकी माँ ने बहुत कम पैसा कमाकर और उसका पेट भरती थीं। एक दिन उसने माँ से पूछा, “क्या मैं देश के राजा से मिल सकता हूँ?” माँ ने कहा, “हाँ, बिल्कुल। क्यों नहीं?” बेटे ने पूछा, “लेकिन, कैसे?” माँ ने कहा, “अगर तुम्हे दिल में यह इच्छा है, तो भगवान इसे पूरा करें।”
उनके गांव में एक साक्षातकारी संत आए। लड़का उनके पास गया और पूछा, “क्या मैं राजा से बात कर सकता हूँ?” संत ने कहा, “हाँ! बिल्कुल। राजा एक बड़ा महल बनवा रहा है। जाओ और वहाँ काम करो। अपनी उम्र में जो कुछ भी कर सकते हो करो; ईंट पत्थर उठाओ लेकिन कोई मेहनताना नहीं लेना। अगर वे तुम्हे पैसे देते हैं, इसे स्वीकार मत करना। बस यह करो, और तुम राजा से मिलोगे।”
लड़का कंस्ट्रक्शन साइट पर गया। उसने निर्माण स्थल पर काम करने के लिए स्वयंसेवकों की सूची में खुद को नामांकित किया। उसने बहुत ईमानदारी और मेहनत से काम किया और शाम को पैसे नहीं लिए। उसने लगातार तीन महीने तक बहुत मेहनत की।
एक दिन राजा काम का निरीक्षण करने आया। उसने एक जगह छिपकर काम देखा। यदि वह राजा के रूप में आता, तो राजा को दिखाने के लिए कार्यकर्ता बेहतर तरीके से काम करते; उत्तेजित होकर। उसने देखा कि लड़का बहुत मेहनत और ईमानदारी से काम कर रहा है। शाम को, राजा ने सुपरवाइजर को बुलाया और कहा, “यह लड़का कौन है? वह वास्तव में कड़ी मेहनत करता है। आज उसे और मेहनताना देना।” सुपरवाइजर ने कहा, “लड़के पैसे लेता नहीं है।” राजा ने लड़के को बुलाया और कहा, “यहाँ आओ। तुम इतनी मेहनत करते हो, फिर पैसे क्यों नहीं लेते?” लड़के ने उत्तर दिया, “यह आपका काम है। आप हमारे राजा हैं, और हम आपकी प्रजा हैं। आपका कार्य हमारा कार्य है। मुझे अपने काम के लिए मेहनताना क्यों प्राप्त करना चाहिए?” राजा को बहुत खुशी हुई। राजा का कोई बेटा नहीं था, इसलिए उसने उस लड़के को अपना पुत्र बनाया और उसे अपना राज्य दिया।
हमारे साथ भी ऐसा ही है। हम भगवान का काम नहीं बल्कि अपना काम करते हैं। अगर हम उसका काम करेंगे, तो वह स्वयं हमारे पास आएगा। तुम भगवान को प्राप्त कर सकते हो और आप उनसे बात कर सकते हैं, लेकिन तुमको तो बस काम करने की जरूरत है। आपको किसी मेहनताना की आवश्यकता नहीं होनी चाहिए। भगवान से प्यार करो, लेकिन उससे प्यार की उम्मीद मत करो; “मैं तुमसे प्यार करता हूँ, लेकिन मैं बदले में तुम्हारे प्यार की कामना नहीं करता।” तुम भगवान के साथ व्यापार करते हो, उसे तुम्हारे लिए काम करने के लिए रिश्वत देते हो, और तुम उसे पचास-सौ-हजार रुपये देने का वादा करते हो, या सतही पूजा करते हो। ऐसे भगवान् नहीं मिलते। गुरु के वचनों का पालन करना महत्वपूर्ण है। लड़के में राजा से मिलने का दृढ़ निश्चय था। यदि हम उसे चाहते हैं, तो हमें बचने के अन्य विकल्पों के बिना दृढ़ संकल्प (संकल्प रहित विकल्प) की आवश्यकता है। लड़का राजा के पास नहीं गया, लेकिन वह लड़के के पास आया।
