Compassion Personified

Hridaya has been serving Gadadhar since a young age and has also seen the metamorphosis of Gadadhar into Ramakrishna Paramhamsa Ji. Even Totapuri Ji taught him the ways through which he can bring Thakur Ji back to the gross plane of consciousness when Thakur Ji rises to the higher planes. Hridaya has seen Thakur Ji very closely. Despite all such pure service of a divine being, Hridaya’s mind dwells in materialism. After Mathur Babu‘s death, Thakur Ji announces, “I shall never accept even a single paise from Mathur Babu’s family.” As Hridaya listens to the words, he feels worried about his stomach.

Brahma Samaj, a grand organization, is growing under the control of powerful leaders like Keshav Chandra Sen, Vijay Krishna Goswami, and many more. Keshav Chandra Sen and Vijay Krishna Goswami consider Thakur Ji Satguru and thus revered him. A grand crowd visits Thakur Ji with different motives. People with materialistic wishes cannot withstand the powerful aura of Thakur Ji and thus, go away. But, the ones eager for spiritual upliftment receive proper instruction from Thakur Ji.

Hridaya, worried for his belly, starts making contact with Keshav Ji and others. He tells them stories about he served Thakur Ji while he was in samadhi, portraying himself as a good devotee. The notion of ego spurts out from his mouth. A handful feels attracted to Hridaya and Thakur Ji’s fascinating tales. But, many remain away from flaunting Hridaya.

One day, Hridaya says to Thakur Ji, “Listen, come with me. We shall set up camp somewhere, and your name shall make us earn millions.” Thakur Ji smiles, goes to the altar and, cries, “Mother! Please give him some intellect. Take Hridaya away from me. It’s not my selfishness. He served me from the beginning. But see, how he is luring me into the world?” Mother says, “Don’t worry. He shall receive some intellect within a day or so.” Thakur Ji feels relieved.

Within the next two days, Hridaya commits some mistakes while working in the mandir. Mathur Babu’s son scolds him and says, “You and your Guru! Leave this place immediately.” Thakur Ji listens to these words and holds Hridaya’s hands. He says, “Let’s go outside.” Before Hridaya and Thakur Ji can reach the main gate, Mathur Babu’s son comes running and falls at Thakur Ji’s feet. He pleads and asks for deep apologies. He says, “Kindly forgive me. You must not leave the place.” Thakur Ji lifts him and asks, “What do you want me to do now?” The man says, “Kindly come to the mandir. I promise that I shall serve you as my father served you.” Though Thakur Ji has given the words, not to receive even a single paise from Mathur Babu’s family, Thakur Ji returns to the mandir with an expression as if nothing has happened.

Thakur Ji is silent, but Hridaya says, “You came back, despite being embarrassed severely. I shall not stay here.” Thakur Ji smiles and feels that Mother has done her job. Hridaya leaves for his village. He has conserved all the salaries he received from Mathur Babu and is rich enough. Back in the village, Hridaya enjoys materialism and has faith that he shall merge with Mother Kali if he remembers Mother before his death. Soon, he starts facing several problems. He has to face the jury for certain problems. He feels distressed and thinks, “I should go to Thakur Ji.” His ego creates obstacles but finally, he decides to leave for Dakshineshwar.

At the same time, Thakur Ji says to Keshav and Vijay, “I should go to Hridaya’s village.” Keshav and Vijay feel pleased, on receiving a command from him. They make all arrangements and leave for Hridaya’s village. As Hridaya comes to know about Thakur Ji’s arrival, he runs and falls at the divine feet, says, “Kindly forgive me. You guided me to remain away from the clutches of Maya. But I am stuck. Only you can help me.” Thakur Ji places his hand over Hridaya’s head and Hridaya feels the old devotion and love for Thakur Ji. Thakur Ji says, “You shall never be stuck in the world.” After a day or two, Thakur Ji returns to Dakshineshwar. Hridaya stays in his village. When Thakur Ji meets his younger disciples, he always asks them to meet Hridaya. Hridaya narrates all stories about Thakur Ji.

The time of departure of Hridaya arrives. Hridaya is sitting on a woven cot. He says, “I see Mother coming to me and taking me. I see Thakur Ji and Mother are one… Hari Om Tatsat” Soon, the family members see a divine light emerging from Hridaya’s heart, and he leaves the physical abode.

This is the way how Hridayanath completed the divine journey.

Moral: It is quite tiresome to remain stuck in the world web and then return to the same state with the same vigor. It is best to remain surrendered at the divine feet of the Lord and pray to free us from all our worldly desires
