Story
When a flame is about to extinguish, it emits a stronger flame and light. It suggests that when a potential epitome of love is about to leave the physical abode, it emanates itself to everyone to the fullest.
Rabiya spoke very little, yet she had several enemies due to her fame. As her time of final demise was approaching, even the enemies renounced hatred and felt the love, which cleansed their minds.
The final day arrived when she announced her demise. With her inner voice, she called all the beasts and people. All assembled to listen to her. She said, “This is the final day when I shall leave this physical abode.” The people who were at higher strata of practice merely smiled and realized her union. Rabiya felt the subtlest response of the flora and fauna, and filled them with love. For the people who were in distress on her news of demise, Rabiya prayed to Allah, “O Allah! You made this physical body serve you. May these people feel Thy presence after my demise. May they not grieve.” Allah replied, “Don’t worry. You never did anything. I worked through you.”
While entering her hermitage, Rabiya said, “No one shall enter this hut. All the doors and windows shall be open. Only the one who shall take me shall enter.” The mob dripped in silence and watched the words happen. In the early dawn, Rabiya became still and uttered, “Allah….Uh.” Before she could end the last syllable, her body became still.
After several hours had passed, Hasan Basari decided to enter the hut with a few others. They found Rabiya’s body, which was finally buried.
The foster mother of Rabiya, who cared for Rabiya in the Master’s house, heard Rabiya say, “Why didn’t you come to meet me?” The mother saw Rabiya and accompanied her to Basra. The mother asked the inhabitants of Basra, “Where is Rabiya?” The people replied, “She left the physical abode.” Astonished, the mother replied, “How is it possible? She accompanied me to Basra, and now she is hiding.” Looking at Rabiya’s tomb, the mother asked, “Rabiya?” A voice from the tomb replied, “Yes!” The mother continued, “How did you tackle Munkir and Nakir, the angel interrogators?” Allah replied on Rabiya’s behalf, “Why are you asking her? She never did anything. I worked through her.” The mother recollected the prophecy of Prophet Mohammed (p.b.u.h.) about Rabiya’s life.
The people who could not meet Rabiya before her demise saw Rabiya in her physical form. Even today, people with immense faith see Rabiya in the physical form of a young girl, like the Shodashi.
जब एक लौ बुझने को होती है, तो वह अंतिम क्षणों में और प्रज्वलित होकर रोशनी देती है। इसका संकेत है कि जब प्रेम का मूर्त स्वरूप देह को त्यागने के निकट होता है, तो वह स्वयं को पूर्ण रूप से सबमें बिखेर देता है।
राबिया बहुत कम बोलती थीं, फिर भी प्रसिद्धि के कारण उनके शत्रु भी थे। जैसे-जैसे अंत समय निकट आया, शत्रुओं ने भी वैर त्याग दिया और प्रेम का अनुभव किया—जिसने उनके मनों को शुद्ध किया।
वह अंतिम दिन आया जब उन्होंने देह त्याग की घोषणा की। अपनी अंतर-ध्वनि से उन्होंने समस्त जनों और पशु-पक्षियों को बुलाया। सभी एकत्र हुए। उन्होंने कहा, “आज वह अंतिम दिन है जब मैं यह देह छोड़ दूँगी।” जो लोग साधना में उच्च अवस्था पर थे, वे मुस्कुराए और उनके मिलन को समझ लिया। राबिया ने वनस्पतियों और प्राणियों की सूक्ष्मतम प्रतिक्रिया को महसूस किया और उन्हें प्रेम से भर दिया। जो लोग उनके देह-त्याग के समाचार से व्यथित थे, उनके लिए राबिया ने अल्लाह से प्रार्थना की, “हे अल्लाह! आपने ही इस देह से अपनी सेवा कराई। मेरे देह-त्याग के बाद भी ये आपकी उपस्थिति का अनुभव करें, इन्हें शोक न हो।” अल्लाह का प्रत्युत्तर आया, “चिंता मत करो। तुमने कुछ नहीं किया—मैंने तुम्हारे माध्यम से किया।”
अपने आश्रम में प्रवेश करते हुए राबिया बोलीं, “इस झोंपड़ी में कोई प्रवेश न करे। सभी दरवाज़े और खिड़कियाँ खुली रहें। केवल वही प्रवेश करेगा जो मुझे लेने आएगा।” भीड़ मौन टपकती रही और वचन फलित होते देखती रही। भोर होते-होते राबिया स्थिर हुईं और बोलीं, “अल्लाह… उ…” अंतिम अक्षर पूरा होने से पहले ही देह स्थिर हो गई।
कई घंटे बाद, हसन बसरी कुछ लोगों के साथ कुटी में प्रविष्ट हुए। उन्हें राबिया का शरीर मिला और फिर उनका दफ़्न किया गया।
जिस पालन-हार माता ने उस्ताद के घर में राबिया की सेवा की थी, उन्होंने राबिया की आवाज़ सुनी, “तुम मिलने क्यों नहीं आईं?” माता ने राबिया को देखा और उनके साथ बसरा पहुँचीं। बसरा के लोगों से पूछा, “राबिया कहाँ हैं?” लोगों ने कहा, “उन्होंने देह छोड़ दी।” विस्मित होकर माता बोलीं, “यह कैसे संभव है? वह तो मेरे साथ बसरा आई थीं और अब छिप गई हैं!” समाधि के पास जाकर माता ने पुकारा, “राबिया?” समाधि से उत्तर आया, “हाँ!” माता ने पूछा, “मुनकर-नकीर, अर्थात देवदूत परीक्षकों का सामना कैसे किया?” अल्लाह ने राबिया की ओर से उत्तर दिया, “तुम उनसे क्यों पूछती हो? उन्होंने कुछ नहीं किया—मैंने उनके माध्यम से किया।” माता को हज़रत मुहम्मद (स.अ.व.) द्वारा राबिया के जीवन के बारे में कही गई बात स्मरण हो आई।
जो लोग देह-त्याग से पहले राबिया से न मिल सके थे, उन्हें राबिया का साक्षात दर्शन हुआ। आज भी जिनकी आस्था प्रगाढ़ है, वे राबिया को शोडशी-रूपा किशोरी के रूप में प्रत्यक्ष देखते हैं।

Like Rabiya, we should be aware while contemplating God’s name.” Alif explained, “Out of boastfulness, we try to rule the world, forgetting the lives of other beings. Finally, we end up destroying the planet. Everything has the same soul, hence respect everything.”
सजग भक्ति ही सृष्टि के प्रति प्रेम को गहरा करती है।
एक माँ — “हमें सभी प्राणियों से प्रेम करना चाहिए, चाहे वे वनस्पति हों या जीव। राबिया की तरह हमें ईश्वर का नाम जपते समय सजग रहना चाहिए।”
अलिफ़ — “अहंकारवश हम संसार पर शासन करने की कोशिश करते हैं और अन्य प्राणियों के जीवन को भूल जाते हैं। अंततः हम पृथ्वी का विनाश कर बैठते हैं। सबमें एक ही आत्मा निवास करती है, इसलिए हर वस्तु का आदर करो।”

अलिफ़ — “हाँ! गहराई से प्रेम करो।”

A mother said, “When I meet my Rabiya, I become tranquil for several days… Now, I am neither able to wake up early nor chant. How should I overcome the lurking Mahishasura? From the story, I learned to refuel my routine from Brahma Muhurta and Japa.” Alif explained, “Just love the little baby. Listen keenly: you may neither see Radha Rani outside nor within as second person, yet Radha Rani is with you. Now interact in the world seeing Radha Rani with you.”
राधा रानी की उपस्थिति में व्यवहार करो — वे सदा साथ हैं।
एक माँ — “जब भी मैं अपनी राबिया से मिलती हूँ, कई दिनों तक भीतर-बाहर शांत रहती हूँ… अब न तो जल्दी उठ पाती हूँ, न जप। भीतर छिपे महीषासुर पर कैसे विजय पाऊँ? आज की कथा से सीखा—ब्राह्म मुहूर्त से दिनचर्या और जप पुनः आरंभ करूँ।”
अलिफ़ — “बस उस छोटे बच्चे से प्रेम करो। ध्यान से सुनो—राधा रानी न तुम्हें बाहर दिखेंगी, न द्वितीय-पुरुष रूप में स्वयं में; पर वे तुम्हारे साथ हैं। अब संसार में ऐसे व्यवहार करो, जैसे राधा रानी साथ चल रही हों।”

एक लड़की — “राबिया तरल तत्व जैसी थीं—जागरूक जीवन के हर रूप में ढल जाती थीं, चाहे दासता हो या हज। वह अपने सच्चे स्वरूप की जागरूकता में जीती थीं—ऐसा ही हमारा अभ्यास होना चाहिए।”

A mother said, “We were taught surrender for years, but now I grasp its gist and find peace in surrender.” Alif explained, “In the world we practice patience under dualism; in non-dual love, even patience seems moot. As the river nears the ocean, turbulence is natural. When the mind must drop doership, wavering comes—identity fears. We are born to unite with the ocean. The initiated are compelled to surrender; the soul urges the mind to love—seventy times a mother’s love. None can humiliate you but your own mind. The Guru shows there is no ‘other’.”

एक माँ — “समर्पण वर्षों से सिखाया गया; अब उसका सार समझकर शांति मिलती है।”
अलिफ़ — “द्वैत में धैर्य-सहिष्णुता का अभ्यास होता है; अद्वैत-प्रेम में वे भी अप्रासंगिक लगते हैं। नदी सागर के पास अशांत होती है; मन जब कर्तापन छोड़ता है, डोलता है—पहचान का भय होता है। जन्म ही महासंगम हेतु है। दीक्षित जन समर्पण को विवश होते हैं; आत्मा मन को प्रेम हेतु उद्युक्त करती है—माता से सत्तर गुना। तुम्हें कोई बाहरी नहीं, तुम्हारा मन ही अपमानित करता है। गुरु दिखाते हैं—‘दूसरा’ कोई नहीं।”

एक माँ — “जब मैं राबिया से प्रेम करती हूँ, वह दौड़ी चली आती हैं। मेरी साधना में ‘दासों का दास’ होने का भाव जाग्रत है। बाहर से उतनी विनम्र न दिखूँ, फिर भी भीतर अभ्यास जारी है।”
अलिफ़ — “हाँ! यह दासभाव उत्तम है।”

एक लड़का — “राबिया उन सब से मिलीं जिन्होंने उन्हें प्रेम किया। संबंधों में भेद का लोप केवल प्रेम से संभव है; निष्पक्ष सजगता भी प्रेम की दृष्टि से ही आती है।”

एक पिता — “कथा सुनी, पर समझ न पाया। बस बैठा हूँ और जो घट रहा है, उसे देख रहा हूँ।”
अलिफ़ — “हाँ! यही साक्षीभाव अभी आवश्यक है। गुरुजी भी कहते हैं—बैठो और जो घट रहा है, उसे देखो।”

एक माँ — “सभी संतों-ऋषियों का जीवन हमें अपने आत्मस्वरूप से प्रेम कराना था।”
अलिफ़ — “हाँ! हमें स्वयं से प्रेम करना है—न किसी और से, न किसी मूर्ति से।”
