What are the similarities between Prahlaad, Valmiki, Maa Parvati, and Dhruv? Their Guru was same, Maharishi Narad. We are aware that Rishi Valmiki was a thug named Valya, who couldn’t enunciate “Rama, Rama….”, so recited “mara, mara, mara,….”, and found the Truth.
This is the story about how Narad Ji became Vishwaguru.
Narad Ji was born through Brahma Ji and Mother Saraswati, and was deeply devoted to Lord. He was equally loved by Lord and Mother. One day, He received a curse from His brother, Daksha that He had to wander hither thither. Narad Ji accepted the curse as a boon, and enjoyed moving to different realms of existence. He often visited Gaulok, the dwelling place of Lord Vishnu.
One day, Lord was resting, and Mother Lakshmi was massaging His feet. Narad Ji appeared, repeating Narayan, Narayan. Lord woke up, Mother bowed down. They asked Him to sit with them. Their conversation went on for hours. Then, Narad Ji bowed before them, and took leave. As He left, Mother coated the site, where He sat with cow-dung slurry, and sprinkled some drops of Ganga Jal, repeating the Name of Lord. This went on for months. Narad Ji used to ponder over the reason, but couldn’t come to solid conclusions.
One day, He couldn’t stop Himself, and returned back and asked Them the reason of the purification ritual. He asked if His devotion for them was not pure enough. Lord denied the fact, and said that His devotion was incomparable, but He was devoid of a Guru. A person deficient of guidance from a Guru can’t be pure totally. Narad Ji bowed before Him, and asked Him to be His Guru. Lord said that Guru couldn’t be found in Vaikunthalok, they were found on earth. Lord said when He takes birth as a human on Mrityulok, and realize His True self, then He becomes capable of giving Divine Instruction; which was not ordained in Vaikuntha. Moreover, He could go to all the lokas according to His wish. Narad Ji asked about the steps He had to take to find a Guru. Lord said that as He descends on Earth, the first person He sees, would be His Guru. Narad Ji bowed before Them, and took leave. He descended on Earth, and saw a fisherman holding a fishing rod. He bowed before the Fisherman, and enunciated the words of prostration. The Man didn’t utter a word. He was totally immersed in His job of catching a fish. Narad Ji repeated His words several times, but in vain. As the fishing line fluttered a little, generating tension in the rod, Man pulled the string and caught a fish. Then, He turned around and asked about the cause of chaos, during His work. Narad Ji replied that Lord had told Him about Him as a Guru. Then, He added that seeing the One-pointed efforts in a job, irrespective of yearning voices, ensured Him that He had found His Guru. In a deep voice, the Fisherman asked Him about the rights He was endowed with, to judge another person. Narad Ji apologized for His mistake, and prostrated before Him. Then, the Man told Him that He had to suffer the bounties of heaven as well as the hell. Narad Ji said that as He had found His Guru, He could suffer all the rewards as His feet. His Guru asked Him to dawdle the heaven and hell on the sand. He did the same. Then, He asked Narad Ji asked Him to roll about in the region of hell, and suffer it there. He did the same. Then, He asked Narad Ji to do the same in the heaven. Then, He said that His sufferings had been extinguished. After that, Narad Ji received initiation, and realized that Narayana, Maa and He Himself were same Perpetual existence.
After His initiation, Mother never cleaned the place after He left, as He had received the guidance of a Guru, who is Brahma Himself.
When Prince Dhruv left His home, He received Divine Instruction from Maharishi Narad. Prince Prahlada was initiated, when He was in His Mother’s womb. When Maa Parvati took birth, as a daughter of Himalaya and Maina Ji, She got initiated by Narad Ji. Despite, She was Shakti Herself, but even the incarnations need Guru to realize their Reality, caged in human form.
