Happiness

One day a mother and father decided to send their son, Aryan to a Guru’s house for three months long practice on understanding spirituality and the real essence of happiness and life.

As they reached the Guru’s house, Aryan started becoming extremely temperamental. After a little wait, Aryan was called by his Guru. The first question posed to Aryan was how happy he was? Arian snapped “Who is happy today? everyone has so many problems…I have so many problems”. After a little pause the Guru said “Aryan , everyone has problems but not everyone is unhappy. Happiness is not dependent on whether we have problems or not. There are people in this world who are very happy with very little that they have and vice versa. You see son, we all have problems but that should not be a hindrance in enjoying life the way it is and continue smiling”.

Aryan nodded sheepishly in agreement.

“It is all about the way you perceive any problem, the mindset in the situation”… Guru continued, “ I would like to share with you something important now. God puts us into problems only because he knows we are strong enough to face them or learn from them.” Aryan asked inquisitively “ So, does that mean problems are very much like tests ?”

“Very much, YES !, It also involves your choices of overcoming the obstacle ” explained the Guru. To this Aryan asked if there is any end to the problems. The Guru replied “God only puts us in problems for a short while and thereafter lies pure happiness ..in other words a blissful state.”

Aryan started understanding the importance of being happy and that it lies in oneself. He was keen to learn more at the Guru’s place and began putting these learning into practice. He had chosen a path of growing into a good human being.
