- Rama, Mother Sita, and Lakshmana spent days in the forests of Chitrakoot. When rains began, they had to take refuge in grottos. They found a cave and began living in those caves.
- The caves were naturally wild and lacked basic amenities for survival. They needed water for carrying out their basic activities. Mother used to wake up early and needed water to initiate the daily routine. She struggled.
- River Godavari thought of helping Mother. She realized that if she changed her path and flowed across the towns, there could be vast devastation. She thought that she could take a form in disguise. Mother Godavari prayed to Lord to use her as a tool to serve Mother. A miracle happened. She reached the caves in no time and grew as a puddle filled with fresh water. She flowed as a tiny stream into the caves and quenched the puddle. She even flowed out of the caves but in disguise (even today, people are unaware of the ways by which a river flowing in the Deccan took a turn to quench the puddle in North India).
- Lakshmana realized that they needed a persistent source of light the illuminate the caves to carry out basic chores. He prayed to Eternity to enlighten the cave the way they could feel the light in their hearts. Soon, hundreds of glow worms appeared in the caves and illuminated the place.
- The caves are still present in North India in Chitrakoot called Gupt Godavari.
