- Rama, Mother Sita, and Lakshmana were sitting outside their hermitage, performing Satsang. Other people also assembled to feel the Satsang. Soon, the Satsang ended, and people left the place. Lakshmana went to gather firewood. Rama and Mother Sita were sitting.
- Finding favorable conditions, Surpanakha, Ravana’s sister, came to pass by the place. She gathered an attire of a beautiful lady and hid behind a tree. She began praising Rama’s beauty loudly. Brahma sitting in the heavens felt happy for Surpanakha as she sang glories for Lord. Soon, she changed the sentences and began praising herself. She walked towards Rama and said that he must marry her. Rama said that he was married and had taken a vow of marrying once. Surpanakha said that he could marry as his father Dasharatha had three wives. Rama denied.
- Surpanakha walked towards Mother Sita and asked her if she was ready to let her consort marry her. Mother prayed and left the choice to the Divine will. Rama pointed towards his brother Lakshmana. Lakshmana didn’t look at her and began praising her beauty. Surpanakha lured him to look at her. She tried to bully him. Lakshmana took his ax and chopped her nose.
- They conquered the passion by practicing dispassion (Vairagya) and surrendering to the Divine will.
