- Ravana’s sister Surpanakha rushed to Lanka to complain to Ravana. She said that she was bullied and mistreated by two men in her province, and the men even cut her nose as her wife commanded him to do so. Ravana felt the gush of blood through his veins.
- Ravana was aware that only Rama could do such a deed. He felt that his death was near.
- An appropriate time had come for Marich to repay the favor of Ravana. Ravana called him and asked to help him. He commanded him to change his form to a golden deer. Marich had to obey.
- Marich disguised as a golden deer. He ran across the bushes, and suddenly Mother Sita saw the deer. She asked Rama to bring the deer. Rama went to catch the deer. Rama commanded Lakshmana to take care of Mother. Marich felt that Ravana could not abduct Mother if Lakshmana remained near her. Marich began shouting for help in Rama’s voice. Mother asked Lakshmana to go and help his brother. As Mother commanded him, he had to go. He drew a line and asked Mother to remain behind the line. Mother nodded.
- Soon, Ravana took a form of a bhikshu and walked towards the hermit. He asked for alms. Mother went in and brought some alms. As she spread her hands to give the alms, Ravana said she had to cross the line and give the alms. Mother denied. Ravana threatened that he would curse her. Mother smiled within her heart and crossed the line. Ravana laughed and held Mother’s hands.
- The true form of Mother fused with the fire while she crossed the line and only the pseudo form went with Ravana. Ravana would have been turned into ashes if he had crossed the line or touched Mother.
- Mother was free from all attachments. She never bothered about gold or deer. She merely enacted the play to teach the mortals.
- Surpanakha lied to save her part though she tried to bully Mother and others. Thus, it is important to rely upon virtues.
- Even Marich was aware that he attain liberation, if he died by facing Rama’s arrow. So, it is inevitable to practice Viveka and vairagya in a daily regime.
