Hymn of Glories- Part 26

  1. After completing the yajna, Rama and the rest left for Lanka. After hours of walking, they reached Lanka. The spies were active, and the message reached Ravana.
  2. Rama prayed to Shiva for further guidance. Shiva asked him to send another messenger to Ravana to persuade him, as it was unrighteous to indulge in a warship before operating the treatise of peace. Rama asked Angad, son of Bali, to go to Ravana as his messenger. Rama instructed him about the ways to persuade Ravana to return Mother without warfare. Angad accepted the words as they were and left for the palace.
  3. As he reached near the margins of the active province of Lanka and enquired about the location of Ravana’s palace, people began trembling in fear and greeted him with respect. They guided him to the palace with great respect. Their minds experienced cyclones of thoughts as they remembered the day of Hanumana Ji’s wrath.
  4. Angad reached the court. He paid respects to Ravana and tried to persuade him humbly. Ravana didn’t pay heed. Angad tried to threaten Ravana in the name of his father, Bali, who had held Ravana under his arms for six months. Ravana felt egoistic about the Shakti he received in the yajna. Ravana sat stubbornly with a cruel face. Angad tried his best to persuade him. Vibhishana tried as well.
  5. Ravana felt unusual but thought that he would be considered a coward in the eyes of his successors. So, he remained adamant. Vibhishana said that Ravana should listen to the words of Rama, as he could rule the kingdom for long and become immortal. But, Ravana didn’t move a speck. Vibhishana even said that Angad could destroy their territory within a second, if Ravana didn’t accept his words. Ravana felt that Vibhishana questioned his strengths and thus lashed him by terrible words.
  6. In wrath, Ravana ordered his guards to throw him out of his province. Angad expressed some superficial wrath and tucked his feet firmly on the ground. All the well-built men tried to move his foot but in vain. Then, Angad left the court and conveyed the entire incident to Rama. Rama said that they had no choice except the war.
  7. Rama took every breath in the reminiscence of his Lord. We need to imbibe this virtue. Angad received the instruction from Rama to persuade Ravana humbly. But he expressed wrath in the court. That didn’t mean that he boasted his ego. He did the action which a brave soldier should perform on the battlefield. Rama even asked Angad to persuade Ravana by all means. Though Ravana had the energy of Mother, he could not assimilate and direct the energy in the right direction.
