Inevitable Truth of Dev shayan Ekadashi

Before Guru Poornima, which is the fourteenth of the month, eleven day is observed as Devshayan Ekadashi. Let us go to the basic meanings which are prevalent in the society. May we not use our minds while reading the blog. We will feel ourselves as happy us.

It is a belief that people send Devas to state of slumber. Especially, in the Vaishnav customs, it is a common practice that Narayan Ji is sent to take nap for four months, and is waken up later. Is it possible to make the Devas sleep? Did we make him, or he make us? How can we make him sleep?

The term Dev might indicate traditional Devas. But, Kamadev, Lord of Lust is also a part of Devas.
Narayan is not Dev. He is Eternity. Here, the term Dev, truly, indicates us. We have the Entirety embedded within us. We have the light within, but we cannot see it.

Let us see an illustration to prove it. We all have electricity supply in our houses. But, we cannot see the currents or torrents in the appliances. But, when we press the switch, we can see its effects. We can see a lighted bulb, a rotating fan, and the rest. That same electrical energy changed into light energy, rotational energy and the rest. Even, the aspect of power cut is inclusive. During the power cut, electricity exists, but due to some fault in the supply lines, we cannot access it, by pressing the switches.

We may also say that we switch on the light, daily in our meditation. But, it should be a perpetual practice. We do not have to remove the darkness, just allow light to illuminate us.
Similarly we have to open our eyes.

Let us see another example. If there is a dark cave, and it has been without lighting since ages. But, if we take a lamp there, the darkness shall be abolished with fraction of time.
Let us consider that the sun has risen in the sky. But, we have not opened our eyes, and are shouting about darkness, it shall be total insanity.
When we see the sun at the sun rise and sun set, it takes a red hue. so, it happens as earth is moving. Sun is constant. Morning is cherished by half of the world at a time, and night is dozed upon, in another half. Sun is fixed.

The mind is focused on the external world. The light is there. The sun has not risen yet, according to us. We just have to foster in its presence. Once the mind flips itself within, we will see it. We are asleep yet. Our inner eyes are not open yet. As we get rid of the notion of ‘I’, the true self shall unveil itself.

Let us consider that we have intact eyes, but there are lesions in the visual centers of the brain. In that case too, we will not be able to decipher the object we shall see.

The soul is one and eternal.

Let us turn back to Dev shayan Ekadashi. Since, we are lazy, we think that Dev sleep as well. And, after four months we ring the bell, to wake him up. It is a false notion.

The bell is rung to awaken our mind, to stop fostering in futile fuss. If soul leaves the physical abode, we shall be dead. And, if it leaves the cosmos, the manifestations shall become zero, and one formless light will remain. ancient times, Gurukul system of education persisted in the society. And, in the month of mid-July, rains conquer the towns of India. Thus, the basic tasks of livelihood become cumbersome. Thus, the students stay at home for four months. It is allotted as a time to introspect themselves, about the true curriculum of life. Students are ought to meditate and foster in the teachings of Gurukul. The outer eyes are left for some time, and the inner one is concentrated upon. The physical Dev (which we all are) is asleep during these hours, and inner Dev is wakened. This is the reason, the corresponding poornima of this month is called Guru Poornima, for we may use our inner eyes.

Guru takes us form darkness to light. He is revered more than the God. As, he has realized the self, and takes us to the same destination. At the end, no one is Guru or shishya, all the the Eternity.
It is our fuss of mind, which veils the light.
