Intoxicated Shiva

At the beginning of the session, Alif asked, “Shiva is often associated with Bhanga (hemp drink), Dhatura, and Madar. People often drink intoxicating drinks but avoid Dhatura and Madar. Is it the right practice? What does the hemp drink signify?” A person said, “Shiva holds the poison in his throat. Whatever is not good for the people, he takes it.” Alif appreciated and said, “When demons and gods churned the ocean for the ambrosia, Shiva drank the Halaahal, saving the people.” The person said, “When Shiva retained the poison in his throat, he burned the sufferings of the people in his body.” Alif said, “Well, in the same hymn, Shiva was described as the inhabitant of Kailash. Kailash indicates Kaivalya. The one who has conquered the Lash, viz., the corpse, can reside in Kailash. Kailash is the place in between the form and the formless. Formless takes a form to make love blossom in his people. When we perform sacraments before the Shiva Ling, we want to love God in His fullness. When we offer our minds to Shiva within our hearts, we attain ultimate intoxication, the Moksha. Moksha is derived from two words, viz., attachment, and -ksha, meaning abolition. Once attachment perishes, ultimate union occurs. For Narayan Bhakta, it is difficult to become formless. For Shakti Bhakta, it is difficult to hold the form. Mother in the form of Kali or her nine opulent forms bestows love, but the formless prevails. Shiva is constant throughout the year, but Narayan sleeps in Dev Shayan Ekadashi. Rama chants Shiva’s name, and vice versa is also true. The easiest form to hold on to to feel the love is that of Shiva. Rishi Matang’s disciple, Shabari, is described as Madmast Haathi, viz., a free elephant strolling along the trails in a male-dominating jungle of that era. The four months of rain forced the man to stay indoors and practice in Sawan Somvaar. Then, the rest of the eight months become easier. Let us take some rest within our hearts and keep our minds fixed on Shiva, carrying out all responsibilities in the world. I wish you a blessed Sawan.“

A girl said, “In Ayurvedic practice, intoxicating drugs are used as an anesthetic agent for altering the consciousness. However, higher doses of Dhatura and Madar as medicines can lead to convulsions, leading to death. If one is intoxicated in God’s name,… The other point, which says that people take Bhanga but avoid Dhatura and Madar, indicates that when the body is not prepared for the ultimate union and is forced for the same, then the body perishes. We take Bhanga just for the sake of recreation.”

Another girl said, “If we consume Bhanga in a metaphorical sense by intoxicating in God’s name, then we rejoice.” Alif appreciated.

मदमस्त शिव- सत्र की शुरुआत में, अलिफ़ ने पूछा, “शिव को अक्सर भांग, धतूरा और मदार से जोड़ा जाता है। लोग अक्सर नशीले पेय पीते हैं, लेकिन धतूरा और मदार से परहेज़ करते हैं। क्या यह अभ्यास उचित है? भांग क्या दर्शाता है?” एक व्यक्ति ने कहा, “शिव अपने गले में विष रखते हैं। जो भी लोगों के लिए अच्छा नहीं होता, वे उसे पी लेते हैं।” अलिफ़ ने सराहना करते हुए कहा, “जब राक्षसों और देवताओं ने अमृत के लिए समुद्र मंथन किया, तो शिव ने हलाहल पीकर लोगों को बचाया।” व्यक्ति ने कहा, “जब शिव ने अपने गले में जहर रखा, तो उन्होंने लोगों के दुखों को अपने शरीर में जला दिया।” अलिफ़ ने कहा, “ठीक है, उसी भजन में शिव को कैलाश वासी बताया गया है। कैलाश कैवल्य को दर्शाता है। जिसने लाश, यानी शव पर विजय प्राप्त कर ली है, वह कैलाश में निवास कर सकता है। कैलाश आकार और निराकार के बीच का स्थान है। निर्गुण-निराकार अपने लोगों में प्रेम को विकसित करने के लिए आकार लेता है। जब हम शिव लिंग के सामने संस्कार करते हैं, तो हम ईश्वर को उनकी पूर्णता में प्रेम करना चाहते हैं। जब हम अपने मन को अपने दिल के भीतर शिव को अर्पित करते हैं, तो हम परम नशा, मोक्ष प्राप्त करते हैं। मोक्ष दो शब्दों से बना है, मोह अर्थात आसक्ति और -क्ष, जिसका अर्थ है नाश। एक बार आसक्ति नष्ट हो जाने पर, परम मिलन होता है। नारायण भक्त के लिए निर्गुण-निराकार बनना कठिन है। शक्ति भक्त के लिए, रूप धारण करना कठिन है। प्रेम को महसूस करने के लिए सबसे आसान तरीका शिव का है। ऋषि मतंग की शिष्या शबरी को मदमस्त हाथी के रूप में वर्णित किया गया है, अर्थात उस युग के पुरुष-प्रधान जंगल में पगडंडियों पर घूमने वाला एक स्वतंत्र हाथी। चार महीने की बारिश ने आदमी को सावन सोमवार में घर के अंदर रहने और साधना करने के लिए मजबूर किया। फिर, बाकी के आठ महीने आसान हो जाते हैं। आइए हम अपने हृदय में थोड़ा आराम करें और अपने मन को शिव पर लगाएं, साथ में दुनिया की सभी ज़िम्मेदारियाँ निभाएँ। मैं आपको सावन की शुभकामनाएँ देती हूँ।”

एक लड़की ने कहा, “आयुर्वेदिक अभ्यास में, अल्पकालिक चेतनाहीनता के लिए मादक दवाओं का उपयोग एक संवेदनाहारी एजेंट के रूप में किया जाता है। हालाँकि, धतूरा और मदार की अधिक मात्रा से ऐंठन हो सकती है, जिससे मृत्यु हो सकती है। अगर कोई भगवान के नाम का नशा करता है, तो… दूसरी बात, जो कहती है कि लोग भांग लेते हैं लेकिन धतूरा और मदार से परहेज करते हैं, यह दर्शाता है कि जब शरीर अंतिम मिलन के लिए तैयार नहीं होता है और उसे वह दे दिया जाये, तो शरीर नष्ट हो जाता है। हम भांग का सेवन सिर्फ मनोरंजन के लिए करते हैं।”

एक और लड़की ने कहा, “अगर हम भगवान के नाम का नशा करके भांग का सेवन प्रतीकात्मक रूप से करते हैं, तो हम तर जाते है।” अलिफ़ ने सराहना की।
