(Rishi Varun sitting near bank of a river, dipped in divine contemplation. Bhrigu comes running to Him, and prostrates before Him.)
V- Aatmagyani Bhav
B- O Father! I am in a fix. Who am I?
V- O son! You have come to a majestic fix, a dilemma which shall drift you, to reach your destination.
O dear! Thou art the soul. But, it is inevitable to realize this notion. You ought to ponder over it, through penance and meditation.
B- Father! How should I do that?
V- You must observe your breathes, the inhalation and exhalation must transform into a mental rosary. Enunciating the Name of Lod shall drift you. Go, son, embark a glorious journey to the Grand Terminus. Aatmgyani Bahv..
B- Respects to Thee.
(He rushes out to a cave, and starts meditating. Then, after years, He returns back to His Father, rejoicing over His victory,)
B- Respects to Thee Father! I have found my identity.
V- O son! Who are you?
B (happily)- Father! I am the physical body.
V- Son! You are ought to work harder. You are not the physical body.
(He rushes back and returns after few years.)
V- O son! Blessings to Thee. Did you find who you are?
B (joyfully)- O Father! Yes I did. I am the prana vayu. The flow of vayu and its confluences have made me.
V- Son! Work harder. The aspect which changes every moment is not you.
(He again runs back for churning Himself, and returns after few years.)
B- Father! I have found it. I am the mind. I become what I think. So, I am the mind.
V- Son! Work harder.
(Back to His cave, and then returns.)
B- Respects to Thee, Father.
V- Aatmagyani Bhav.
B (rejoicing)- O Father! I am the intellect.
V- O son! It is a superficial finding. The information is gathered through intellect. You are not the intellect. Find out further.
(Bhrigu back to His job, and returns.)
B (rejoicing)- O Father! I am the Ananda, the Bliss.
V- Son! This Anandamaya kosha is the last substation to your target. Work little harder.
(He returns back to His cave, and back after years.)
B- Father! I have realized that I am the soul. The perpetual Existence is me. I am the transcendental Existence.
He became Rishi Bhrigu, one of the great seven sages, the saptarishis. This story has been adopted from Taittreya Upanishad. A bland conversation between father and son makes us realize that patience and perseverance are the most important assets in spiritual life. Despite, Rishi Varuna was an enlightened being, He could not render His achievement to His son. Similarly, A Guru illuminates the path to the target, but the shishya has to travel it, taking help from Divine Instruction.
