Durga Chalisa

Let us understand Shakti, the whole swaroopa (form) of Durgā.

Durg is a fort. It is a fort with nine openings, as are in our physical body with two eyes, two ears, two nostrils, one mouth and two excretory openings.

These doors or openings, when purified, and achieve siddha, the Energy within us manifests or becomes jāgrita.

We are alive because of Energy within (Shāririka and Mānasika Jāgriti, we know. We have to energize our āntrika Energy).

We get purified. There is no desire left even to know Thyself. Our panchatatva (water, air, fire, earth, ether), too, gets purified with this Energy. (Shakti Nāma Japa: Mā Ambe Namo Namo)

Shakti, too, causes purification, or shuddhikarań.

Whole body gets purified, till the level of water, fire and the rest, within us (Tilang Swami’s urine changed to GangāJala on purification).

Jwālāmukhi mein Tumahi Jwālā. The whole body, panchtatva gets purified. Hence, known as Durgā.

  • Pārvati- Daughter of Himāchala and Mainā.
  • Aparńā- Result of continuous meditation and progress.
  • Kāli- Her visualization as Her feet on Shava (Actually, Shiva). This signifies that with trishūla, Mā Kāli is destroying our passions and the triguńa (Satoguńa, Rajoguńa, Tamoguńa), and is energizing us to become one with the soul (A formless Energy to merge in Divine oneness).

This Energy can be felt everywhere (roma roma mein- in each and every cell) and is endless (ananta).

But, when the same Energy energizes (jāgrita) inside you is Mā Durgā Herself (The swaroopa The Shakti).
