We are aware of all the incidents of Ramayana grossly. The images (a) to (c) remind us the series. But, a deep event is hidden amidst the story.
During the days of battle between Lord Rama and Ravana, there was a day when Lord lost the battle. He saw an unusual sight which forced Him to ponder over His acts. He saw the grand form of Mother Kali, fighting on the behalf of Ravana. He contemplated the thought after the battle was ceased at dusk. Jambavan, an elder advisor amongst the Monkey army came to Lord Rama, consoled Him. He asked Him to remain calm, that was not His day of victory. He ensured that they would win the battle the next day. Lord said that He was not perplexed out of failure, but the grand sight. Jambavan said that their army would fight the battle the next day, and asked Him to carry out the rituals of worship.

Hundred and eight nympheae were brought for the rituals. Lord Rama sat and began a majestic contemplation, visualizing a magnificent form of Mother Kali. He chanted prostration mantra, and offered a flower with each recitation. This sequence of chantings and rituals went on for nine consecutive days. The army was fighting with the Lankan army, under guidance of Jambavan. On the eighth day, a last lotus was left to be offered. Lord was in deep meditation. Mother had a test to examine the devotion of Her devotee. She took the last flower, from the alter. Lord moved His hand across the plater of flowers, and didn’t find it. He was stirred off the meditation for a fraction of second, but then fixed His conscience at Her Divine feet. He was reminded of His childhood, and the words of Mother Kaushlya. She called Him Padmalochan, whose eyes are as benign as the corolla of lotus. He pulled out an arrow and decided to offer one of His lotus like eyes to Mother. As He was about to proffer His eyes, strained it out of the orbits, Mother appeared before Him, and stopped Him. She blessed Rama and said that their victory would be certain. Despite He was an enlightened being, His physical form had caged Him, His devotion was unparalled. And finally, Lord Rama‘s army won the battle.

That is why, all the nine forms of Mother are worshipped for nine days, and on the tenth day, victory, viz union with the Supreme is attained. This is the day of Vijayadashmi.

There is a grand concept hidden in the character of Lord Rama. We can understand the glorious personality of Lord Rama through a scientific study, carried out by the scientist working on human psychology. Let us visualize this pyramidal conclusion of various quotients, arranged in a hierarchy.
