After a surge of passion, Brahma Ji lost his fourth head, and hence the fourth Veda disappeared. Only three Vedas were supposed to guide mankind. In the same era, Rishi Atharva appeared and absorbed the essence of Brahma’s fourth head, thereby assimilating the fourth Veda. Rishi Atharva presented his plea to Shiva and said, “Venerable Lord! I have discovered the fourth Veda and wish to receive its validation from Thee. Kindly listen to its exposition.” Shiva smiled gently and remained silent. He decided that Mother Saraswati could be the best judge in the exposition, being the Deity of knowledge. The Manas Putra of Brahma Ji, Sanak, Sanandan, Sanatan, and Sanat Kumar heard the Rishi’s plea and said, “No, sir! We cannot accept the words of a foreign being as the fourth Veda. Only our father’s words can carve the Vedas. We will also participate in the exposition and debate with Shiva Ji.” They felt satisfied, as their mother was going to be the judge in the exposition. The next day, all the Tridevas and their respective consorts assembled in grandeur. Mother Saraswati sat as a judge, and Sanat Kumaras and Shiva Ji faced each other for a witty debate. Mother Saraswati said, “Exemplary Shiva Ji! Kindly acquire thy seat facing North.” Sanat Kumaras stood in awe and interrupted immediately, “No, Mother! Thou art our Mother. We shall face the North.” Shiva Ji said humbly, “O naive boys! I shall face the south as per your demand.” Sanat Kumaras rejoiced seeing their upcoming victory.
Exposition began. Rishi Atharva recited the hymns and enunciated verses describing the fundamentals of medicaments and therapies for alleviating ailments in forthcoming humanity. As the Sanat Kumaras were unaware of the impending apocalypses of the future, they questioned about the nature of diseases and their probable cures. Rishi Atharva answered the questions promptly. Shiva Ji listened to the verses and nodded in consent. As the exposition ended, Sanat Kumaras humbled themselves and accepted the depth of the verses, thereby accepting the fourth Veda. All the Devas rejoiced in accord and sang the glories of Shiva.
From that day, Shiva appeared in south-facing form, called Dakshina mukhi Shiva.
The fourth Veda also described the reality of ancient architectural science, the Vaastu Shastra. Irrespective of the directions, see Shiva everywhere and renounce the prejudices of Vaastu.
शिव के दक्षिणमुखी स्वरूप की उत्पत्ति – एक विलक्षण कथा
एक बार ब्रह्मा जी भावावेग में आकर अपना चौथा मस्तक खो बैठे। उसी क्षण चौथा वेद भी लुप्त हो गया। अब केवल तीन वेद मानवता का मार्गदर्शन कर रहे थे।
इसी युग में प्रकट हुए महर्षि अथर्व। उन्होंने ब्रह्मा जी के खोए हुए मस्तक के सार को आत्मसात किया और चौथे वेद का ज्ञान प्राप्त किया। वे शिवजी के समक्ष उपस्थित हुए और बोले—
“भगवन्! मैंने चौथे वेद को खोजा है। मैं चाहता हूँ कि आप इसकी पुष्टि करें। कृपया मेरे इस ज्ञान को सुनें।”
शिव मुस्कराए, किंतु मौन रहे। उन्होंने विचार किया कि ज्ञान की अधिष्ठात्री देवी सरस्वती ही इसके लिए सर्वोत्तम निर्णायक होंगी।
ब्रह्मा जी के मानस पुत्र—सनक, सनंदन, सनातन और सनत कुमार—यह सुनकर बोले,
“नहीं! हम किसी बाह्य व्यक्ति की बात को चौथे वेद के रूप में स्वीकार नहीं कर सकते। केवल हमारे पिता ब्रह्मा जी की वाणी ही वेदों की जन्मदाता है। हम भी इस शास्त्रार्थ में भाग लेंगे और शिवजी से तर्क करेंगे।”
उन्हें यह विश्वास था कि उनकी माता सरस्वती ही निर्णायक बनेंगी, अतः विजय उनके पक्ष में ही होगी।
अगले दिन समस्त त्रिदेव और उनकी शक्तियाँ भव्य सभा में एकत्रित हुए। माँ सरस्वती न्यायाधीश के रूप में विराजमान हुईं। शिवजी और सनत कुमार आमने-सामने आए।
माँ सरस्वती बोलीं—
“महोदय शिव! कृपया उत्तर दिशा की ओर मुख करके बैठें।”
सनत कुमार तुरंत बोल उठे—
“नहीं, माता! आप हमारी जननी हैं। हम उत्तर की ओर मुख करेंगे।”
शिवजी ने विनम्रता से कहा—
“हे सरल हृदय बालकों! जैसी तुम्हारी इच्छा। मैं दक्षिण की ओर मुख करूंगा।”
सनत कुमार इस पर अत्यंत प्रसन्न हुए।
अब शास्त्रार्थ आरम्भ हुआ। महर्षि अथर्व ने चौथे वेद के मंत्रों का पाठ किया, जिसमें उन्होंने रोगों और उनके उपचार की वैज्ञानिक विधियों का वर्णन किया। उन्होंने भावी युगों में आने वाले महाव्याधियों का समाधान भी प्रस्तुत किया।
सनत कुमार, जो इन भविष्य की आपदाओं से अनभिज्ञ थे, प्रश्न पूछते गए, और महर्षि अथर्व ने प्रत्येक उत्तर तर्कसंगत और तथ्यपूर्ण रूप से दिया। शिवजी श्रद्धा से सुनते रहे और बारंबार सहमति में सिर हिलाते रहे।
अंततः सनत कुमारों ने अपने अभिमान को त्यागकर कहा—
“हम इस वेद की गहराई को स्वीकार करते हैं। यह वास्तव में चौथा वेद है।”
सभी देवताओं ने आनंदपूर्वक स्वीकार किया और शिवजी की महिमा गाई।
उसी दिन से, शिवजी “दक्षिणमुखी शिव” के रूप में पूजे जाने लगे।
महर्षि अथर्व द्वारा उद्घाटित यह चौथा वेद, चिकित्सा विज्ञान के साथ-साथ प्राचीन वास्तुशास्त्र की वास्तविकता को भी प्रकट करता है।
इसलिए, दिशाओं में भेद मत करो—हर दिशा में शिव को देखो और वास्तु के पूर्वाग्रहों से मुक्त हो जाओ।
Feedback began,
A mother said, “I realized that Vaastu Shastra is ineffective.” Alif applauded.
Another mother said, “Nothing is permanent. People look forward to mitigating impermanent sufferings by misusing shastras. I felt that everything was preplanned and people were prepared for the ultimate realization. Medicine and surgery have been curated for us for ages, reinforcing my faith.” Alif said, “Say, I am sick. I should go to the doctor and take the meds. But, it doesn’t mean I should redo my physique. Similarly, if you are not ready to accept that all the sufferings are because of your karmas, then it’s okay to use the Vaastu Shastra, though meticulously. The shastra does not ask us to reposition the rooms in our house, rather to shift our consciousness to the domain of bliss.”
A mother said, “I was thrilled listening to the humility of Shiva Ji. He imparted humility to the stubborn Sanat Kumaras.” Alif laughed.
Alif asked a boy, “If Shiva is the ultimate Guru, then where does the Shakti stand? Is she Mrs.Guru or a shy lady?” The boy replied, “She is the energy, nourishing Shiva to be the Guru.” Alif explained, “If Mother Kali places her right foot on Shiva, he will get a name, and if the left foot, then another name. This means Shiva is like a corpse without Shakti. She is ever-present. The fortress, viz. the soul, resides in this fort (Durga in the Durg).”
A person said, “It was a divine play to show the consecration of Ayurveda.” Alif elaborated, “It’s secret lies in humility. Even the intricate description of Vaastu in the Veda made us understand the true meaning of architectural positioning. People demolish their houses for the sake of finding ease, as per the Vastu principles. They don’t realize the pain they inflict on the Mother Earth by drilling trenches.”
A lady said, “I realized that Shiva Ji was the hero in this story. We must see ourselves as part of the universe. Many tycoons can reverse the ratio of the poor to rich, but are still busy minting money.” Alif said, “I am the living example of this notion. Irrespective of the hefty price you pay to hire people for Gauseva, you can’t find them. But if you practice selfless service and then move about searching, you find dedicated volunteers and can carry out the services selflessly.”
Alif asked a girl, “It is said Dhanvantari bought Ayurveda after the Churning for the Elixir. However, we have recently learned that Rishi Atharva brought the Atharva Veda along with Ayurveda. It confuses many people. Elucidate it.” The girl replied, “In many texts, it’s mentioned that Brahma recollected the knowledge of ever-existing Ayurveda and transmitted the knowledge to Ashwini Kumaras, who further transmitted it to other sages. This indicates that Ayurveda appeared through Brahma, but Dhanvantari merely brought the elixir to nourish the Devas and Danavas….” Alif elaborated, “Yes, Dhanvantari brought Ayurveda. But, Brahma recollected the entire Veda, viz the Atharva Veda….”
A lady said, “Irrespective of the haul of ego we carry to God, he convinces us with his utmost compassion.” Alif said, “Just be in the present and be blissful. Enjoy the journey. Don’t think about the destination.“
A person said, “I learned that may Shiva manifest in me and may I be able to carry out the selfless services in his name.” Alif said, “Revive the sheds for Mother cows and ensure food and water availability. In the rainy season, people enclose their fields, leaving cows with no grazing lands. They rest on roads and meet horrific accidents. We cannot rescue even a millionth part of the injured cows. Give untiring efforts to prevent further accidents. Start from feeding a chapati to the Mother cow and expand your vision for serving more. You may think that you are losing your treasures by doing charity. But, in reality, you shall lose your karmic bondages and become free, with immense resources….. Humility is the sturdiest armour.”
A boy said, “Rishi Atharva appeared before Lord Shiva, establishing a personal relationship with him. Even Sanat Kumaras expressed their varied views rightfully. This indicates that we should direct all our emotions towards God, be it positive or negative.” Alif said, “If you direct your every emotion towards God, you will become God yourself.”
A mother said, “Materialistic ignorance is bliss. The ignorance of spiritual upliftment can only be removed by the Guru. Thus, I should be humble.” Alif nodded.
Another mother said, “Until I realize the wholeness of Shiva within, I cannot carry out the duties with humility.” Alif added, “If you are deputed for a duty, then believe that Shiva has deputed you and he will work through you.”
प्रश्नोत्तर आरंभ हुआ।
एक माँ बोलीं, “मुझे आज यह अनुभूति हुई कि वास्तुशास्त्र प्रभावहीन है।”
अलिफ़ ने प्रशंसा में तालियाँ बजाईं।
दूसरी माँ ने कहा, “कुछ भी स्थायी नहीं है। लोग क्षणिक दुखों से बचने के लिए शास्त्रों का गलत प्रयोग करते हैं। मुझे ऐसा प्रतीत हुआ कि सबकुछ पूर्वनिर्धारित है और प्रत्येक व्यक्ति किसी न किसी क्षण ‘परमबोध’ के लिए तैयार होता है। आयुर्वेद और शल्य चिकित्सा तो युगों से हमारे लिए संचित हैं – इससे मेरा विश्वास और दृढ़ हुआ।”
अलिफ़ मुस्कराते हुए बोलीं,
“मान लो कि मैं बीमार हूँ, तो मुझे डॉक्टर के पास जाना चाहिए, दवा लेनी चाहिए। इसका यह अर्थ नहीं कि मैं शरीर का पुनर्निर्माण करूँ।
इसी प्रकार, यदि तुम अभी यह स्वीकार नहीं कर पा रही हो कि सब दुख तुम्हारे कर्मों का फल हैं, तो कोई बात नहीं – तुम वास्तुशास्त्र का प्रयोग कर सकती हो, किंतु सजगता से।
शास्त्र हमें कमरों की दिशा बदलने नहीं कहता, बल्कि हमारे ‘चेतना’ को ‘आनंद-क्षेत्र’ की ओर स्थानांतरित करने को कहता है।”
एक माँ बोलीं, “मैं शिवजी की विनम्रता सुनकर रोमांचित हो उठी। उन्होंने सनत कुमारों के अहंकार को भी नम्रता में बदल दिया।”
अलिफ़ हँस पड़ीं।
फिर उन्होंने एक बालक से पूछा,
“यदि शिव परमगुरु हैं, तो शक्ति का स्थान क्या है? क्या वह ‘गुरु की पत्नी’ है या कोई संकोची स्त्री?”
बालक ने उत्तर दिया, “वह ऊर्जा है, जो शिव को गुरु बनने के लिए पोषित करती है।”
अलिफ़ ने समझाया,
“यदि माँ काली दाहिना चरण शिव पर रखें तो एक नाम, और यदि बायाँ रखें तो दूसरा नाम मिलता है।
इसका अर्थ है कि शक्ति के बिना शिव शव के समान हैं। शक्ति सदा विद्यमान है। आत्मा इस शरीर रुपी दुर्ग में निवास करती है।”
एक व्यक्ति बोला, “यह तो एक दिव्य लीला थी, जिसमें आयुर्वेद की प्रतिष्ठा को दिखाया गया।”
अलिफ़ ने विस्तार से बताया,
“इसकी गूढ़ता ‘विनम्रता’ में छिपी है।
यहाँ तक कि वेदों में वर्णित वास्तु का रहस्य भी हमें वास्तु के ‘आंतरिक अर्थ’ की ओर ले गया।
लोग आज अपने घर तोड़ देते हैं, शांति की तलाश में, पर यह नहीं सोचते कि धरती माँ पर गहरे गड्ढे कर वे कितना दुःख पहुँचा रहे हैं।”
एक स्त्री ने कहा, “मुझे लगा कि इस कथा के नायक शिवजी ही थे। हमें स्वयं को इस ब्रह्मांड का अंग समझना चाहिए। आज कई उद्योगपति गरीबी के अनुपात को पलट सकते हैं, फिर भी धन जोड़ने में व्यस्त हैं।”
अलिफ़ ने उत्तर दिया,
“मैं इसका जीता-जागता उदाहरण हूँ।
तुम लाखों का वेतन देकर भी गोसेवा के लिए लोग नहीं पा सकते, लेकिन यदि स्वयंसेवा का अभ्यास कर, फिर निकलो, तो समर्पित स्वयंसेवक मिलेंगे और सेवा सहज हो जाएगी।”
एक बार अलिफ़ ने एक लड़की से पूछा,
“लोग कहते हैं कि समुद्र मंथन से धन्वंतरि आयुर्वेद लेकर आए। लेकिन अब हमें ज्ञात हुआ कि ऋषि अथर्व ही आयुर्वेद सहित अथर्ववेद लाए। यह भ्रम क्यों?”
लड़की बोली,
“अनेक ग्रंथों में आया है कि ब्रह्मा ने स्वयं आयुर्वेद को पुनः स्मरण कर, अश्विनी कुमारों को दिया, जिन्होंने आगे अन्य ऋषियों को दिया।
इससे ज्ञात होता है कि आयुर्वेद ब्रह्मा से आया। धन्वंतरि ने केवल अमृत लाकर देवताओं को पोषित किया।”
अलिफ़ ने कहा,
“ठीक कहा। धन्वंतरि आयुर्वेद के वाहक थे, पर सम्पूर्ण वेद—अथर्ववेद—ब्रह्मा की स्मृति से पुनः प्रकट हुआ।”
एक स्त्री बोलीं, “हम चाहे जितना भी अहंकार लेकर ईश्वर के पास जाएँ, वह अपनी करुणा से हमें विनम्र बना ही देते हैं।”
अलिफ़ ने मुस्कराकर कहा,
“वर्तमान में रहो और आनंदित हो। गंतव्य की चिंता मत करो, यात्रा का रस लो।“
एक व्यक्ति ने कहा, “मैंने यह सीखा कि शिव मेरे भीतर प्रकट हों और मैं उनकी सेवा में स्वयं को अर्पित कर सकूँ।”
अलिफ़ बोलीं,
“माँ गौमाता के लिए शेड्स का पुनर्निर्माण करो। वर्षा में जब लोग अपने खेत घेर लेते हैं, तो गायें सड़कों पर आ जाती हैं और दुर्घटनाएँ होती हैं।
हम लाखों घायल गायों में से एक का भी उद्धार नहीं कर पाते।
प्रयत्न यह होना चाहिए कि ऐसी दुर्घटनाएँ हों ही नहीं।
आज एक रोटी से सेवा शुरू करो और फिर अपने सेवा-वृत्त को विस्तृत करो।
तुम सोचोगे कि दान से तुम्हारा खजाना खाली हो रहा है।
पर वास्तव में, तुम अपने ‘कर्मबंधन’ को खो रही हो और ‘स्वतंत्रता व समृद्धि’ को प्राप्त कर रही हो।
विनम्रता ही सबसे मजबूत कवच है।”
एक बालक बोला, “ऋषि अथर्व ने शिवजी के समक्ष व्यक्तिगत संबंध स्थापित किया और सनत कुमारों ने भी अपने मत रखे। इसका अर्थ है कि हर भावना चाहे सकारात्मक हो या नकारात्मक, उसे ईश्वर की ओर मोड़ना चाहिए।”
अलिफ़ बोलीं,
“जब हर भावना ईश्वर की ओर होगी, तब तुम स्वयं ईश्वर बन जाओगे।”
एक माँ बोलीं, “सांसारिक अज्ञान आनंद देता है, लेकिन आध्यात्मिक अज्ञान केवल गुरु ही दूर कर सकता है। इसलिए मुझे विनम्र होना चाहिए।”
अलिफ़ ने सिर हिलाकर सहमति जताई।
एक और माँ ने कहा, “जब तक मैं अपने भीतर शिव की पूर्णता का अनुभव नहीं करती, मैं कर्तव्यों को नम्रता से नहीं निभा सकती।”
अलिफ़ ने कहा,
“यदि तुम्हें कोई कर्तव्य मिला है, तो मान लो कि शिव ने तुम्हें नियुक्त किया है।
और जब यह मानोगी, तो स्वयं शिव तुम्हारे माध्यम से कार्य करेंगे।”
