Today’s story is about the person who wrote Hanuman Chalisa, Tulsidas Ji. When we know about Tulsidas Ji, we will understand why he wrote Hanuman Chalisa and Ramcharitmanas.
Tulsidas was an ordinary human being like us. He was an extremely loving person, and he loved his wife beyond limits. One day, his wife had to go to her mother’s house to stay for a few days. Tulsidas was not able to stay without her wife. At night, he left his home to go to his wife’s home. His wife’s room is on the first floor, and the window of the room faces the road. As it was a dark night, Tulsidas Ji was not able to see anything clearly. He saw something similar to a rope, so he threw the rope up to the window and started climbing up to his wife’s room using that rope. As soon as he reached the window, his wife woke up from her sleep, and she saw her husband standing holding a poisonous snake in his hand. She shouted seeing this, so Tulsidas ji threw the snake away.
His wife started shouting and said, “You came in the night holding a snake without letting me know. You would have knocked on the door. You are an idiot. The way you love me, if you would have loved God, you have reached God itself.” These words changed his world, and he started thinking, “Is it true that if I had loved God this much, I would have reached God?”
He just ran from his wife’s home and kept on running without thinking. He ran so much that it was morning now, just before sunrise. He was so tired that he sat under a tree. After some time, he felt thirsty. He took the coconut shell lying near him and brought water from the river. He drank some water, but he saw that the tree under which he was sitting was a little dry. He didn’t feel good seeing that, so he brought more water from the river and watered the tree.
It was a jungle, so no one was around at that hour. A few ghosts were living on that tree, and they became extremely happy the first time someone offered them water. All the ghosts said, “You are a really good man.” On the same night, his wife said he was a bad person, and the ghost said he was a good person. Ghost said, “As you are such a good man, we will direct you towards a guru.” Tulsidas Ji was very tired, and he was not able to understand what was happening. Tulsidas Ji said, Ok, tell me the address.”
Bhoot pisaach Nikat nahin aavai, Mahavir jab naam sunavai. Ghosts know where Hanuman Ji is present. Ghost said, “You go to Kashi; there is a place where Valmiki Ramayan has been recited. Sit there, and you will find Hanuman Ji there.” Tulsidas Ji asked Ghost, “How will I identify who Hanuma Ji is?” Ghost said, “Good question. We will let you know. The person who comes first in the tent and will be last to live in the tent is Hanuman Ji.” Tulsidas Ji asked, “Does he come in the form of a human being?” Ghost said, “Yes.”
Tulsidas Ji now went to the Kashi. When he reached Kashi, he saw a big tent being placed at a place. He saw that there was one person who was cleaning everything and was wearing rags. The face of the person was very beautiful, but he was wearing torn clothes. On the first day, Tulsidas didn’t understand anything. Tulsidas Ji thought he might be the cleaner, but that person, after cleaning, sat there, and then everyone else also came.
The person who was reading the Ramanya also came and started reciting the Ramanya. This kept on happening for a few days, and even after everyone left, this person again cleaned everything and then went at last. Tulsidas Ji observed these for two or three days. He thought, He is Hanuman Ji. The third day after the session ended, he went and took hold of that person’s legs and said, “Wait”. Hanuman Ji tried to save himself from him. Tulsidas Ji said, “You are Hanuman Ji. You are the guru.” Hanuman Ji said, No, I am not.” Tulsidas Ji said, “You are a Guru. Ghosts told me you are a guru.” Hanuman Ji changed himself into a well-dressed human being and said, “I will help you meet Ram Ji.” Tulsidas Ji became extremely happy.
It is not as easy as we think. Now his actual journey to reach Ram Ji starts. Hanuman Ji asked Tulsidas Ji to go to Chitrakoot and said, “Ram Ji went for Vanvas there. You also go to Vanvas and sit next to the Mandakini River, rub sandalwood, and keep on remembering God. One day Ram Ji will come.” One day, sitting next to the Mandakini River, Tulsidas Ji was rubbing sandalwood, and Ram Ji came. We just heard the tip of the iceberg of his story. It seems very easy, but the moment he ran away from his wife’s home to meet Ram Ji and become one with Ram, the struggle behind it took a good forty years. We don’t know about his mental struggles during those years or how he survived.

You listen to God, and he will listen to you. If you want to reach God, you need a Guru; it is the truth.”
A lady said, “We love something that belongs to us and care more about it. When you say this is mine, we tend to care more and love more. Similarly, if I say that Allah is mine, then more love for Allah will come.” Teacher said, “For that, you have to make a relationship with God. Once a personal relationship develops with God, things get sorted. God loves us seventy times more than our mother, but we don’t even love him as much as our mother does. We don’t even love our mother. We do not listen to our mother; how are we going to listen to God?” The lady said, “As you said before, God is one, but forms are different. When we are in trouble, we tend to ask for help from every god, but no one comes to help due to the confusion. So, we should pray only to one God.” Teacher said, “Your faith should be complete in anyone’s name. It could be Radha, Shiv, Ram, Allah, or anyone else. God will come in the form in which you have faith.”
Teacher explained Tulsidas Ji’s journey: “He might be at the age of 20 or something when he was married. After getting scolded by his wife, he ran, and there he met the ghost. Ghosts guided him to go to Kashi, which might have taken him three or four days to reach. We listened to Ramayana for a few days and then met Hanuman Ji. Hanuman Ji asked him to go to Chitrakoot. It would have taken him a few days to reach Chitrakoot from Kashi. It was not like that. He sat for one day rubbing sandalwood, and Ram Ji came. Slowly, the love he had for his wife would have converted into love for Ram. For a few days, he would have cried for his wife, and slowly, as he repeated Ram Ji’s name as guided by Hanuman Ji, his love for Ram Ji would have grown. After a few days, Ram Ji would have started testing him. All the evil things would have overpowered him. So many chanllanges would have come to distract him. Did he get distracted or sit at the riverside repeating Ram naam? So many problems we would have faced, it took him forty years to reach the state where Ram Ji came. Tulsidas Ji still kept trying, and Hanuman Ji was always with him. A day came when his heart actually became pure by repeating Ram Naam, and then Ram Ji came in the form of a boy. He was not able to identify Ram Ji when he came as a boy, but Hanuman Ji helped him as a Guru. Still, at that time, he was only able to meet Ram Ji. The journey from meeting Ram Ji to becoming Ram Ji starts there. Now the journey for ‘I’ starts. You might get the ego that I saw Ram Ji, but that didn’t come from Tulsidas Ji. Slowly he moved ahead; his ‘I’ ended, and he understood Ram and I are one. Then, with his body, Ramcharitmanas, Hanuman Chalisa, and other things were written. He would have been hungry for some days, and some days he might have gotten food. He has to face all the weather without a roof over his head. We have every facility, but we are not repeating God’s name and do not have complete faith. Tulsidas Ji was a human being like us. We need to have faith and repeat God’s name with perseverance.”
तुलसीदास जी की यात्रा
आज की कहानी हनुमान चालीसा लिखने वाले व्यक्ति तुलसीदास जी के बारे में है। जब हम तुलसीदास जी के बारे में जानेंगे तो हमें समझ में आएगा कि उन्होंने हनुमान चालीसा और रामचरितमानस क्यों लिखी।
तुलसीदास हमारी तरह एक साधारण मनुष्य थे। वह एक बेहद प्यार करने वाला व्यक्ति था, और वह अपनी पत्नी को सीमा से परे प्यार करता था। एक दिन उसकी पत्नी को कुछ दिन रहने के लिए अपनी मां के घर जाना पड़ा। तुलसीदास अपनी पत्नी के बिना नहीं रह पा रहे थे। रात में वह अपनी पत्नी के घर जाने के लिए घर से निकला था। उसकी पत्नी का कमरा पहली मंजिल पर है, और कमरे की खिड़की सड़क के सामने है। काली रात होने के कारण तुलसीदास जी को कुछ भी स्पष्ट दिखाई नहीं दे रहा था। उसे रस्सी जैसा कुछ दिखाई दिया, तो उसने रस्सी को खिड़की तक फेंक दिया और उस रस्सी का उपयोग करके अपनी पत्नी के कमरे तक चढ़ने लगा। जैसे ही वह खिड़की के पास पहुंचा, उसकी पत्नी नींद से जाग गई, और उसने देखा कि उसका पति अपने हाथ में एक जहरीला सांप पकड़े खड़ा है। यह देखकर वह चिल्लाई तो तुलसीदास जी ने सर्प को दूर फेंक दिया।
उसकी पत्नी चिल्लाने लगी और बोली, “तुम मुझे बताए बिना रात में सांप पकड़कर आए थे। तुमने दरवाजा खटखटाया होगा। तुम मूर्ख हो। जिस तरह तुम मुझसे प्यार करते हो, अगर तुम परमेश्वर से प्यार करते, तो तुम खुद भगवान तक पहुंच गए हो। इन वचनों ने उसकी दुनिया को बदल दिया, और वह सोचने लगा, “क्या यह सच है कि अगर मैंने परमेश्वर से इतना प्यार किया होता, तो मैं परमेश्वर तक पहुँच गया होता?
वह बस अपनी पत्नी के घर से भाग गया और बिना सोचे-समझे भागता रहा। वह इतना भागा कि अब सुबह हो चुकी थी, सूर्योदय से ठीक पहले। वह इतना थक गया था कि वह एक पेड़ के नीचे बैठ गया। कुछ देर बाद उसे प्यास लगी। उसने अपने पास पड़े नारियल के खोल को लिया और नदी से पानी लाया। उसने थोड़ा पानी पिया, लेकिन उसने देखा कि जिस पेड़ के नीचे वह बैठा था वह थोड़ा सूखा हुआ था। उसे यह देखकर अच्छा नहीं लगा, इसलिए उसने नदी से अधिक पानी लाया और पेड़ को पानी पिलाया।
यह एक जंगल था, इसलिए उस समय आसपास कोई नहीं था। उस पेड़ पर कुछ भूत रह रहे थे, और जब पहली बार किसी ने उन्हें पानी की पेशकश की तो वे बेहद खुश हो गए। सभी भूतों ने कहा, “तुम वास्तव में एक अच्छे आदमी हो। उसी रात, उसकी पत्नी ने कहा कि वह एक बुरा व्यक्ति था, और भूत ने कहा कि वह एक अच्छा व्यक्ति था। भूत ने कहा, “जैसा कि आप इतने अच्छे आदमी हैं, हम आपको एक गुरु की ओर निर्देशित करेंगे। तुलसीदास जी बहुत थक गए थे, और उन्हें समझ नहीं आ रहा था कि क्या हो रहा है। तुलसीदास जी ने कहा, ठीक है, पता बताओ।
भूत पिसच निकत नहीं आईवी, महावीर जब नाम सुनावई। भूत-प्रेत जानते हैं कि हनुमान जी कहां मौजूद हैं। भूत ने कहा, “तुम काशी जाओ; एक जगह है जहां वाल्मीकि रामायण का पाठ किया गया है। वहां बैठो और तुम्हें वहां हनुमान जी मिल जाएंगे। तुलसीदास जी ने भूत से पूछा, “मैं कैसे पहचानूंगा कि हनुमा जी कौन हैं? भूत ने कहा, “अच्छा सवाल है। हम आपको बता देंगे। जो व्यक्ति तम्बू में सबसे पहले आता है और टेंट में रहने वाला आखिरी व्यक्ति होगा, वह हनुमान जी हैं। तुलसीदास जी ने पूछा, “क्या वह मनुष्य के रूप में आते हैं? भूत ने कहा, “हाँ।
तुलसीदास जी अब काशी चले गए। जब वह काशी पहुंचे तो उन्होंने देखा कि एक जगह पर बड़ा सा टेंट लगा हुआ है। उसने देखा कि एक व्यक्ति था जो सब कुछ साफ कर रहा था और रथियां पहने हुए था। व्यक्ति का चेहरा बहुत सुंदर था, लेकिन उसने फटे कपड़े पहने हुए थे। पहले दिन तुलसीदास को कुछ समझ नहीं आया। तुलसीदास जी ने सोचा कि वह सफाईकर्मी हो सकते हैं, लेकिन वह व्यक्ति सफाई करने के बाद वहीं बैठ गया, और फिर बाकी सब भी आ गए।
रमना पढ़ रहा व्यक्ति भी आया और रमन्य का पाठ करने लगा। कुछ दिनों तक ऐसा ही होता रहा और सबके जाने के बाद भी इस शख्स ने फिर से सब कुछ साफ किया और फिर अंत में चला गया। तुलसीदास जी ने इनका दो-तीन दिन तक पालन किया। उसने सोचा, वह हनुमान जी हैं। सत्र समाप्त होने के तीसरे दिन, वह गया और उस व्यक्ति के पैरों को पकड़ लिया और कहा, “रुको”। हनुमान जी ने खुद को उससे बचाने की कोशिश की। तुलसीदास जी ने कहा, “आप हनुमान जी हैं। आप गुरु हैं। हनुमान जी ने कहा, नहीं, मैं नहीं हूं। तुलसीदास जी ने कहा, “आप गुरु हैं। भूतों ने मुझसे कहा कि तुम गुरु हो। हनुमान जी ने खुद को एक अच्छे कपड़े पहने हुए इंसान में बदल दिया और कहा, “मैं आपको राम जी से मिलने में मदद करूंगा। तुलसीदास जी अत्यंत प्रसन्न हो गए।
यह उतना आसान नहीं है जितना हम सोचते हैं। अब राम जी तक पहुंचने की उनकी वास्तविक यात्रा शुरू होती है। हनुमान जी ने तुलसीदास जी को चित्रकूट जाने को कहा और कहा, “राम जी वहां वनवास के लिए गए थे। तुम भी वनवास जाकर मंदाकिनी नदी के पास बैठ जाओ, चंदन मलते रहो, और भगवान का स्मरण करते रहो। एक दिन राम जी आएंगे। एक दिन मंदाकिनी नदी के बगल में बैठे तुलसीदास जी चंदन रगड़ रहे थे, तभी राम जी आ गए। हमने अभी उनकी कहानी के हिमखंड की नोक सुनी। यह बहुत आसान लगता है, लेकिन जिस क्षण वह राम जी से मिलने और राम के साथ एक होने के लिए अपनी पत्नी के घर से भाग गया, इसके पीछे के संघर्ष में चालीस साल लग गए। हम उन वर्षों के दौरान उनके मानसिक संघर्षों के बारे में नहीं जानते हैं या वह कैसे बच गए।

एक महिला ने कहा, “तुलसीदास जी को अपनी पत्नी से सच्चा प्रेम था, जिसके कारण उनके शब्द उनके साथ चिपक गए और उन्हें भगवान के साथ एक कर दिया। अगर प्यार सच्चा नहीं था, तो वह उसके शब्दों को अनदेखा कर देता। वह इतना दृढ़ था कि भूत भी उसकी मदद करने के लिए आते थे। शिक्षक ने कहा, “पूरा ब्रह्मांड आपकी मदद करने के लिए आता है। महिला ने कहा, “हनुमान जी एक गरीब आदमी के वेश में थे। जब हम उनके जैसे किसी व्यक्ति से मिलते हैं, तो हम उन्हें अनदेखा कर देते हैं, लेकिन वह व्यक्ति भीतर से कैसा है, कोई नहीं जान सकता है। टीचर ने कहा, “इसीलिए आपको किसी को उसके कपड़ों या काम से जज नहीं करना चाहिए। उनके अंदर वही ईश्वर है जो आपके अंदर है। महिला ने कहा, “हनुमान जी भेष बदलकर आए थे ताकि कोई उन्हें पहचान न सके। इसी तरह उस स्तर तक पहुंच चुके लोग भेष बदलकर रहते हैं। हमें किसी को उनके लुक से जज नहीं करना चाहिए। मुझे बहुत अच्छा लगा जब आपने कहा कि जब रामायण का पाठ किया जाता है, तो हनुमान जी सुनने आते हैं, लेकिन मुझे नहीं पता था कि जब हनुमान चालीसा पढ़ी जाती है, तो राम जी आते हैं। शिक्षक ने कहा, “भगवान हमेशा भक्त के पीछे दौड़ते हैं। तुम परमेश्वर की सुनते हो, और वह तुम्हारी सुनेगा। यदि आप भगवान तक पहुंचना चाहते हैं, तो आपको एक गुरु की आवश्यकता है; यह सच है।
एक महिला ने कहा, “हम किसी ऐसी चीज से प्यार करते हैं जो हमारी है और इसके बारे में अधिक परवाह करते हैं। जब आप कहते हैं कि यह मेरा है, तो हम अधिक परवाह करते हैं और अधिक प्यार करते हैं। इसी तरह, अगर मैं कहूं कि अल्लाह मेरा है, तो अल्लाह के लिए और अधिक प्यार आएगा। शिक्षक ने कहा, “उसके लिए, आपको भगवान के साथ एक रिश्ता बनाना होगा। एक बार जब परमेश्वर के साथ एक व्यक्तिगत संबंध विकसित हो जाता है, तो चीजें हल हो जाती हैं। भगवान हमें हमारी मां से सत्तर गुना अधिक प्यार करते हैं, लेकिन हम उसे उतना प्यार भी नहीं करते हैं जितना हमारी मां करती है। हम अपनी मां से भी प्यार नहीं करते। हम अपनी माँ की नहीं सुनते; हम परमेश्वर की बात कैसे सुनेंगे? महिला ने कहा, “जैसा कि आपने पहले कहा था, भगवान एक है, लेकिन रूप अलग हैं। जब हम मुसीबत में होते हैं, तो हम हर देवता से मदद मांगते हैं, लेकिन भ्रम के कारण कोई भी मदद करने नहीं आता है। इसलिए, हमें केवल एक ही ईश्वर से प्रार्थना करनी चाहिए। शिक्षक ने कहा, “आपका विश्वास किसी के भी नाम पर पूर्ण होना चाहिए। यह राधा, शिव, राम, अल्लाह या कोई और हो सकता है। भगवान उसी रूप में आएंगे जिस रूप में आपको विश्वास है।
शिक्षक ने तुलसीदास जी की यात्रा के बारे में बताया: “वह 20 साल की उम्र में हो सकते हैं या कुछ और जब उनकी शादी हुई थी। पत्नी से डांट खाने के बाद वह भागा तो वहां उसकी मुलाकात भूत से हुई। भूतों ने उन्हें काशी जाने के लिए निर्देशित किया, जहां पहुंचने में उन्हें तीन या चार दिन लग गए होंगे। हमने कुछ दिनों तक रामायण सुनी और फिर हनुमान जी से मिले। हनुमान जी ने उन्हें चित्रकूट जाने को कहा। काशी से चित्रकूट पहुंचने में उन्हें कुछ दिन लग जाते। ऐसा नहीं था। वह एक दिन चंदन रगड़ते हुए बैठा रहा और राम जी आए। धीरे-धीरे उसका अपनी पत्नी के प्रति प्रेम राम के प्रेम में परिवर्तित हो जाता। कुछ दिनों तक वह अपनी पत्नी के लिए रोता रहा होगा, और धीरे-धीरे, जैसे-जैसे वह हनुमान जी के मार्गदर्शन में राम जी के नाम को दोहराता जाता, राम जी के लिए उसका प्यार बढ़ता जाता। कुछ दिनों के बाद राम जी ने उसकी परीक्षा लेनी शुरू कर दी होगी। सभी बुरी चीजें उस पर हावी हो जातीं। उसे विचलित करने के लिए इतने सारे चन्लंग आए होंगे। क्या वह विचलित हो गए या नदी के किनारे बैठकर राम नाम दोहरा रहे थे? हमें इतनी सारी समस्याओं का सामना करना पड़ता, उन्हें उस राज्य तक पहुंचने में चालीस साल लग गए जहां राम जी आए थे। तुलसीदास जी फिर भी प्रयास करते रहे, और हनुमान जी हमेशा उनके साथ रहे। एक दिन ऐसा आया जब राम नाम दोहराने से वास्तव में उनका हृदय पवित्र हो गया, और फिर राम जी एक लड़के के रूप में आए। बालक बनकर आने पर वे राम जी को पहचान नहीं पा रहे थे, लेकिन हनुमान जी ने गुरु के रूप में उनकी सहायता की। फिर भी, उस समय, वह केवल राम जी से मिलने में सक्षम था। राम जी से मिलने से लेकर राम जी बनने तक का सफर वहीं से शुरू होता है। अब ‘मैं’ के लिए यात्रा शुरू होती है। आपको अहंकार हो सकता है कि मैंने राम जी को देखा, लेकिन यह तुलसीदास जी से नहीं आया। धीरे-धीरे वह आगे बढ़ गया; उनका ‘मैं’ समाप्त हो गया, और वह समझ गए कि राम और मैं एक हैं। फिर उनके शरीर के साथ रामचरितमानस, हनुमान चालीसा और अन्य बातें लिखी गईं। वह कुछ दिनों से भूखा रहा होगा, और कुछ दिनों में उसे भोजन मिल सकता था। उसे सिर पर छत के बिना हर मौसम का सामना करना पड़ता है। हमारे पास हर सुविधा है, लेकिन हम भगवान का नाम नहीं दोहरा रहे हैं और हमें पूरा विश्वास नहीं है। तुलसीदास जी हमारी तरह ही इंसान थे। हमें विश्वास रखने और दृढ़ता के साथ भगवान के नाम को दोहराने की जरूरत है।
