(Kabir Das Ji is sitting under a tree, surrounded by a group of disciples. He is in bliss. He is conversing with the disciples about Eternity. Suddenly, tears roll down His cheeks.
The disciples feel restless. They wish to enquire. Soon, one of them musters some courage.)
Disciple 1: O Baba! Is everything alright? Why are you in tears?
Disciple 2: Thou art always free from the pains of the mortals.
Kabir Das Ji: Oh! I see my Rama before me. He is telling me that the tasks of my physical body have finished. He is asking me to free the body and return to the ultimate abode, the Saket.
Disciple 3: O Baba! Thou art free from the attachments. Then, why are you feeling the pangs for leaving a meager element?
Kabir Das Ji: I am not worried about leaving the body. I am in tears as I will not be able to enjoy the frolics of pangs of separation and love for my Lord. That divine play is amazing.
Disciple 2: O seer! We are puzzled about Thy health.
Kabir Das Ji: Oh! It is not the case. I see the events which made Trishanku remain suspended in the air, upside down, as a result of his desires. This makes me cry.
Disciple 4: Who was Trishanku?
Kabir Das Ji: Listen keenly. Trishanku was the king of Suryavamsa, the solar dynasty. He wished to visit heaven with his physical body. He practiced penance for several years and then met Guru Vasishtha. He asked Him to grant him the wish. Guru Vasishtha asked him to renounce his attachments to the physical body. He assured Trishanku that he could go without the body swiftly. But, Trishanku was reluctant to leave anything. Guru Vasishtha denied. Trishanku went to Guru Vasishtha’s sons. He asked them to help him. But, they ignored it as their father had commanded him. Trishanku pleaded before them like a stubborn baby. In return, the sages cursed him, and he became a ghost.
Trishanku didn’t cease his mischiefs. He went to Guru Vishwamitra and conveyed his wish. Guru Vishwamitra heard that Guru Vasishtha had denied him. A sense of ego emerged in him. He told Trishanku that he could help. He organized a grand yajna. Trishanku’s body began floating in the air within few minutes and soon began rising in the air. As the body reached midway, Indra Dev’s throne began trembling. All demigods ran to Shiva Ji to seek help. All the celestial beings congregated and began thrusting the form of Trishanku towards the earth. The forces out of the yajna and the heavenly forces from the Devas canceled each other, and Trishanku remained suspended in the air. Brahma Ji appeared in the scene. He requested Guru Vishwamitra to stop the yajna. Guru Vishwamitra was stubborn. He decided to construct new heaven, where he could send Trishanku. Brahma Ji pleaded keenly. Guru Vishwamitra realized and stopped the yajna. He asked Brahma Ji about the ways he could bring Trishanku back on the land. Brahma Ji asked him to leave him suspended in the air as a punishment. He is suspended in the air in the skies of the city Maghar, till date.
I saw this scene. I couldn’t control the tears. I shall leave the physical abode in the land of Maghar.
All Disciples (in an accord): O great seer! Thou have spent Thy lifetime in the land of liberation, Kashi. Why do Thou wish to leave the abode in the cursed land? It’s believed that people who die in Maghar surely reach hell. The karma-nashini river shall ruin Thy good actions.
Kabir Das Ji: No! I have decided that I shall prove the power of the Name. If we remember Him at the death bed, we unite with Him. Land and prejudices cannot change the faith.
(All disciples prepare to leave for Maghar. Even Kashi Naresh reach Maghar. The king of Maghar Abid Khan reaches the site. A grand mob accumulates all around.)
Abid Khan: O great seer and my people! I welcome Thee in my land of Maghar. As Thou art Kabir Das Ji and have decided to breath last on this land, we shall bury Thee according to our customs.
Kashi Naresh: O king! The seer has spent His entire lifetime in the land of Kashi. We shall carry out the funeral according to our customs. Guards! Prepare the pyre.
(The mob begins muttering.)
Kabir Das Ji: Kindly be silent. All wishes will be addressed. I will veil my body with this linen. I shall enunciate Allah-Rama-Allah-Rama several times. Once you stop listening to the sounds, you can unveil me. Whatever you will find underneath the linen, divide the stuff and cremate according to your wish.
(Kabir Das Ji lies in a supine position and enunciates the Name underneath the cloth. After few minutes, the sounds stop. People unveil the body.
They see a blanket of flowers scattered on the ground. People collect the flowers and cremate Him according to their beliefs.)
There is His place of Samadhi as well as a Makbara on the banks of the Karma-nashini river. Kabir Das Ji proved the power of the Name. People set ‘alarms’ to leave the lazy beds early in the morning, but we can use Allah-Rama to leave the fatigue in the path to Divinity. Karmas can be nullified by the Name, and we shall be liberated for sure.
